Ok first off, you guys are great. The info and tactics you have helped me with have been invaluable. Im not the best Uboat Captain out there and my realism settings are not the highest in the world, but I take care of my crew and enjoy the game.... That is untill last night.... :damn:
Here we go, *Rant On*. Its Nov 1941, Just got my BRAND NEW IX, Im based in lorient and my patrol grid is in AL63. No problem!! My new boat has over 20 eels, 2 rear firing tubes and a sharp crew. What more can you ask for right? Anyway, I set sail at flank speed for my patrol zone and along the way encounter 2 merchants. Sink both of those, yay for me.
I countinue on my way with no problems, reach my grid, zig here zig there for 24 hours NO PROBLEM!! BDU contacts me to tell me that "A Large Convoy Is headed east at 7 knots in blah, blah, blah, blah...." That convoy is one grid over and its only 1600 hours.... SWEET!!! I set flank speed for the suspected convoy with my NEW ENGINE UPGRADE, I jet through the water at 21 knots. I make visual contact with the convoy and boy is it HUGE.
Only 3 warships protecting it, no problem!!! For some unknown reason the V&W desroyer makes a beeline for me and turns on the search lights, no problem. Myself and the crew had been talking so maybe they picked it up on the hydrophones, no problem. V&W is approx 400 yards behind me, I fire tube 5 and 10 secs later the V&W is licking the sea floor.
The Clemson high tails it out of the area to rejoin the convoy so I turn off the silent running so I can get the rear tubes loaded. If the Clemson would have turned around I would have returned to silent running, no problem. Its extremely stormy and raining, no problem. I approach the convoy at the perfect 90 degree angle and wait for them to get close.
Once they close I target the T3 tanker in the middle, fire tubes 1 and 2 then target the fully loaded C2 and fire tubes 3 and 4. The first salvo at the T3, one of the eels detonated after about 8 secs in the water, that left only one eel headed down range for the T3. Both eels strike their mark on the C2 sinking it. The T3 gets vaporized by the one eel I sent downrage. Cool!! One T3 is down and one C2 is down. I tell the crew to shut the hell up and settle down because the fight aint over.
The men are working overtime trying to get these tubes loaded fast enough. I have a fix, I will travel south east of the convoys position at flank speed, then travel north yet again to intercept them. This will have to be done on the surface as I absolutely need the torpedo reserves that are bolted to the hull of the sub, no problem. I get to the intercept postion, ALL external eels are on board, Im still drinking and the crew is getting the rest they deserve. My plan as another forum member suggested, WE WONT BE GOING HOME UNTILL ALL AMMUNITION IS EXHAUSTED!!
Battle Stations are manned, all 6 tubes are green, convoy is approaching, Im drunk, crew is happy and Im gonna get some major tonnage when.............................................T HE FREAKING CIRCUIT BREAKER IS TRIPPED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :damn:
:damn: :damn: :damn: :damn: :damn:
I had the space heater hooked up, the desktop hooked up to the same surge protector, this is in my computer room. My girlfriend goes into the bedroom to iron her clothes, plugs up the iron, and it kills ALL THE POWER to the computer room!!! :damn: :damn:
Last time I saved the game was probably just before I got the message for the convoy, 1.5- 2 hours ago!! To make matters worse, anytime I save a game in mission, I can never load that game as it seems to only let me load before or after a mission... :damn: :damn: :damn: :damn: :damn:
