View Full Version : Ship Names?
Isn't there a mod that generates names for the ships you sink? I thought it was part of SH3 Commander, but I just downloaded it and apparently it's not there. I think it would be pretty cool to have names attached to the ships I"m nailing.

In SH3Cmdr Release 2.2, click on "SH3 Options" and select the "Use real ship names in patrol logs" option. Provided all patrol logs were created in the same language as you currently have selected in SH3, they'll all be updated the next time you create a Personnel File for the selected Commander.
If you want to wait a few days, SH3Cmdr Release 2.3 expands on this by not replacing the default SH3 name, but adding a real ship name, so the result is something like: "S.S. Minnow (C3 Cargo)". A few people asked for this enhancement...and they got it! ;)
Awsome! I had just downloaded SH3 Commander from the SubSim downloads section, and it was the 2.1 version. I just updated it to 2.2, so I'll go check that out. Thanks for the quick reply, and thanks for creating the program to begin with, I think I'm gonna love it :sunny:

OO! wait! I got a request! How about a link to the already generated report? I allways have to generate a new one if I want to see it again, and how about a way to change the keyboard shortcuts around?

Jaesen....NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!
I just downloaded 2.2 and started a patrol!!!! :damn:
I swear, if oRGy posts after this and says Improved U Boat 1.02 is coming out in a few days, I may switch to a playstation....
I just can't keep up with you guys!
But seriously....Cheers to you, Beery, oRGy, and ALL the modders who've made this game 1000x better than the out of the box version. :()1:
One of these days I'll get TWO whole patrols in before the next version of SH3 Commander or IuB rolls around!

Hey, you may be interested to know that one of your careers that you sent me months ago still forms a major part of my testing process!
You will be pleased though to know that there will be at least a month's gap between R2.3 and R2.4 - there's a few more additions, but they require a lot of coding and hence will take a while!

All created Personnel Files are stored under <InstallPath>\SH3 Commander\Personnel Files\. You can get to them via Windows Explorer.
Changing keyboard shortcuts? You mean in-game shortcuts? Never thought about it actually.
I have SH3 Commander installed, but since I don't plan on really using it much until I start playing DiD, I want to know: Does installing a new version of SH3 Commander mean you have to start a new career, or just a new patrol? Otherwise, why would Von Scheerbach be so perturbed by a new SH3 Commander coming out?

Such comments are really a running joke here in the forum because usually with mods you must be "in base" to install them in order to avoid CTDs.
However, with SH3Cmdr, you don't need to be in base - you can install or update it mid-patrol. Unlike typical mods, simply installing SH3Cmdr does not modify any game files. Files are only modified when you "Launch SH3!". Only requisite is that you perform a rollback in SH3Cmdr before installing an updated version and if you are mid-patrol, you continue the career via the SH3Cmdr interface (which you would ordinarily do anyway, at least with R2.2 on).
Makes sense, but another question now. If I decide to use the milk cow mod, I don't like the idea of having to change my emblem twice in order to "simulate" the time spent in base between patrols. I like the random factor that you put into SH3 Commander. That will be the way that I go when I actually start a real DiD career. However, if and when I decide to use a milk cow, I don't want to spend a lot of time there, I'd rather it be 1 day at the max, just like in real life. So, could I save my game before going to the milk cow, quit the game, and then through SH3 Commander change the days spent in base to 0 and reload the game and do it that way? Since it's mid-patrol, I wonder if the changes would take effect that way.

I'll let Rubini explain the best way to get SH3Cmdr and Milk Cow working together...

Trav: I wasn't perturbed at all! Just having a little fun with Jaesen.
Jaesen, Beery, oRGy, et al are the reason this game has gone from great to over-the-top incredible. If any of them are ever in Pittsburgh, the beer and Primanti's sandwiches are on me!
Jaesen: Good to hear the original Von Scheerbach career is still alive and kicking! Since he and U-802 went to the bottom off of Halifax on patrol 23.....the first patrol AFTER I installed your first iteration of SH3 Commander, by the way!

Hey I like the History Channel note at the the end, that's good stuff! About the only thing worth watching on TV as far as I'm concerned. After I check the History Channel and if it doesn't have anything interesting, I get discouraged and I give up and get on the computer. If there's nothing on the History Channel, I don't know any other channels that consistenly have good stuff on them (except a few) so rather than sift through a couple hundred channels I say screw it.

LOL. Dunno if you watch Mythbusters, but Career "Von Scheerbach" is indeed my "Buster".

Heh same here, but I don't have History Channel right now, I've gone down to basic cable. I got tired of paying for channels I don't watch. I wish I could buy a cable package that just had History Channel, SciFi, and Learning Channel. Everything else is just fluff...

I use the milk cow mod with SH Commander and basically if I was 100% sure that the patrol I was on would not require me using a milk cow I would set SH Cmdr to do random days in base. If I knew I would have to use a milk cow I would set it to one day in base and later switch my emblem to get the 28 days. Since SH Cmdr let's you pick your patrol grid you can kind determine before hand if you want to use the random days feature or not. So far it's worked great for me. I was on a patrol I knew I would need to refuel on so I set the days in base to one and refuel, returned to my own base and changed my emblem twice.
Of course the emblem thing always remains at 14 days but who changes their emblem for every patrol?
