At this point, I am assuming the problem is at my end. (third try)

I got it running! :|\ :know: :yep: My second computer i use to DL the mods so i can use my main computer with out worrying about accidential disconnecting etc., When the mods are downloaded, i then always just copy the mod to my main computer which has SH3. Copying IUB 1.01 mod over the network to my main computer must of stuffed it up, resulting in the errors i mentioned above. I just extracted the mod from my DL computer to its desktop and got no errors! Then i just copied that folder over to the main computer and then enabled it using the JSGME.

oRGy:
The problem of the black sky is directly related to what "scene.dat" file you are using.
When I used the scene.dat file that you provide, I had no "black sky" problem, but my FPS dropped from 60 to 30. When I changed out your scene.dat file for my scene.dat file, I had the "Black sky" effect, but with 60 FPS. Then I installed the new Marhkimovs_Enhanced_Ocean_Reflections after IUB 1.01 and my scene.dat file, I have blue sky again and 60 FPS too.
Really love this mod and thanks.

I have the same problem as many: my donwload stops early (100mb) and can't use the download manager (FlashGet).
Is there a mirror or a download manager that works well with the U-boot Real Simulation page?
Thank you.
Well, if you use anything other than the standard IuB scene.dat without knowing exactly what you're doing you'll certainly get rendering glitches. Interesting fps info btw, but were you comparing exactly the same scenes? Near land or heavy traffic framerate will chug more.
Anyone else with black sky bugs, please check that you're not using any other mod over IuB. If you still have the bug please
1) Post your system specs (OS, video card, version of drivers)
2) How you installed IuB (over a clean copy, with jsgme or not)
3) Etc.
As also Terrapin from realsimulations reports that his copy is working with zero glitches. Further, I double checked the situation on my computer with multiple drivers and settings and sky was fine in all situations.

oRGy:
In reading some other threads in the forum today, I think the reason that my FPS are so different between the two scene.dat files is the viewing distance. Your scene.dat should allow you to see 16 km versus mine, which is the original SH3 scene.dat which only "sees" 8 km. Twice the distance, half the FPS !!!
The test that I aways use is the "Navigation tutorial" when you first start out looking at the land and watch the FPS as mods are added or deleated. This way I have a base that is always consistant and measureable.
Yes, the feature of IuB is that the viewing distance is now realistic (16km, though u-boat crews could see smoke plumes on a clear day out to 20!)
This is all thanks to Manuel Ortega and co's visibility mod.
An interesting thing to note though is that doubling the view distance in fact quadruples the amount of 3d to render for the computer. You'll understand if you think about it.

To anyone who downloaded and installed my sky mod on top of IUB,
I was mistaken, it is actually incompatible with IUB.
The fix is a relatively simple one, however. Visit this thread and follow the instructions under the Compatibility section.
http://www.subsim.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=44533&start=0 (http://www.subsim.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=44533&start=0)
Basically you will have to extract my TGA files from the SkyColor DAT files and insert them into the same DAT files provided by IUB (it is simpler than it sounds ;)).
Marhkimov
10-27-05, 12:15 PM
I was actually hoping that oRGy would include my 'sky & reflection mod' within IUB itself, but he probably thought that it would conflict with something. I guess he didn't realize that my fix was only the TGA files. All he had to do was place my TGA's inside of his DAT files, and voila!
I didn't alter or hex edit any of the DAT files; after all, I am just a simple textureman... ;)

Anyone else with black sky bugs, please check that you're not using any other mod over IuB.
oRGy,
First things first. Good job sir. My thanks to you and everyone who contributed to this.
I now have black sky whenever the sun should be visible. At night I see beautiful stars and a really nice moon. During the day, if the weather is overcast the sky looks right, i.e. good looking clouds. However when the sky should be clear, it is black. I can see the sun as a big pale yellow ball, fairly plain; and I can see the moon, beautifully rendered, but the sky is uniformly black everywhere else. As soon as the sun sets, the stars come back out and all is well.
Now, I did not experience this on my first patrol with IUB. Everything looked fine. The problem appeared after I updated my nvidia driver to 81.85. I then tried the beta 81.87 and the sky was still black. I am going to try now to revert to whatever I had before, seventy something, I hope I can find it.
I installed IUB by first going to SH3 Commander 2.2 and doing a rollback. Next, I used JSME to remove everything I had loaded. Then I deleted the data directory from my SHIII directory and copied a clean v1.4b version back into that directory. Finally, I used JSME to install IUB and nothing else.
My system is:
P4 2.4 GHz
Win XP fully patched
1 GB ram
nvidia GeForce FX 5700 LE 128MB
And I always run "end it all" before playing.
Again let me say how much I like this mod. I have always used RUB, and really appreciate the realism, but I also like the eye candy. Before IUB I would have RUB and 15 other mods loaded via JSME (another fine program) but often couldn't remember which version of which mod caused which effect. I was fighting CTDs constantly. Now I am envisioning a future where I use Commander and IUB and nothing else. My life is complicated enough, anything to simplify it is greatly appreciated.
I have some sense of the list of contributers but I'm sure I am not aware of them all. And I realize that there are a lot. To everyone who contributed to this project: The drinks are on me if we ever meet; in the meantime, thanks again and keep up the good work.

Well finally, after 5 tries, I could download it.
I like it very much and I haven't got the sky problem.
I notice the general slowdown, but is usual on my computer.
Great work, maybe you can make the file easier to donwload, split in parts, or make the use of a download manager easy, but foor the rest, all works well.
Maybe a compaint... that guy who shout when hitting a ship... gets me nervous, I think he will be my "last torpedo". :hmm:
My computer, if anyones need to know is

Nvidia FX5500 128 Mb graphic card
WinXP fully actualized.
90 GB of Hard Disk.
Yes, I know is a wonder that SHIII runs... but It do even with a good amount of details... I don't need to set the settings to minimum.
Only that the charges are long, but then, the game goes well

really an excellent work!
Just 1 problem: I don't like your sound effects, especially the explosions, how can I restore the original files?
Thanks.
Thanks for the info JBClark; it seems the new Nvidia drivers are the culprit. I rolled back to the 77.77 series myself. Apart from the usual missing sun glare, they're fine.
cunnatzzo: If you have a backup, just restore original .wav files of SH3 in the /data/Sound folder. It's a shame you don't like them though, I only include improvements - for example, the original pressure hull creak sounds are the same ones as used in the Dwarven mines in Morrowind!!

orgy, I like your sound improvements but not their quality, just my opinion.
Thank you for your great work.
First: Thanks to all mod makers for the time and effort. I would probably hav punted on this game long ago if not for your effort.
Thanks to oRGy for compiling those efforts into a kick-ass package.
Now my problem: Everything Looks great but when looking at the horizon my FPS drop to single digits. If I look below the horizon
the FPS jumps to 30+. I assume this has to do with the visibility changes. Is there any way to eliminate just the visibility change to test this?
My system: P4-2.8, 1 Gig Ram, 9800 Pro (128)

Anyway you could try the atmosphere mod (8km) version - it's on the SH3 Mod Workshop forum. It should be compatible... mostly.

I don't know about him, But I get this frame rate hit near land, or in open sea. With or without other ships in the area.
It's tolerable, but I was wondering if using the default scene.dat file would resolve this. I haven't tried it, because I'm torn between the frame rate issue, and the ability to see 18km(which is very nice)....
Thanks for the reply! I did some playing around during the weekend.
Here is the scenario: middle of North Sea. Slowdown only seemed to occur during rough seas and looking toward England. If I looked to port and that is the direction England was that is where the slowdown occured. If I sailed toward England and looked to the bow - FPS drop. If I looked any other directions FPS was acceptable.
I spent the weekend pulling IUB apart and trying different things to see if I could isolate the mod causing this. I didn't solve this problem but I found out replacing the Skycolors*.dat files solved the Black mid-day sky problem (this only occured after i started pulling IUB apart).
Any help you can give me on this would be appreciated.
Regarding slowdown:
You must remember that doubling the view distance doesn't double the the amount of 3d space to render. It increases the amount to render exponentially.
This is sort of like how a 512*512 pixel texture takes up 4 times as much memory as a 256*256, but worse.
This is especially noticeable near land, where you'll also get lots of terrain to render and reflect, not just sea and ships. As well as increased harbour traffic, minefields, nets, and other miscelleanous items.
So basically, if you're on a weaker computer, there's little that can be done unless you want to get rid of the expanded view distance.

SUPERIOR!!! One stop shopping for virtually every improvement in the game. Now...if I could only incorporate Spy Satallite (if only for the time saving convenience of not wandering around blindly hoping to stumble on a convoy...unlike real life). Possible??? Anyway...Bravo Zulu...and thanks for the hard work.
Well, I'll include the updated world map with the convoy routes marked next version, which should help.
Or you could always just hang around AM52. ;)

Just out of curiosity, has anyone reported having a FPS slowdown while zoomed in on the navmap using this mod? It only happens when I've allready got data(target's course, etc.) and when I'm zoomed all the way in. I've got "God's eye" turned off in the options.
Did you try clearing your map of any navigational aids you may have drawn?

Did you try clearing your map of any navigational aids you may have drawn?
Yes, that usually clears it up, but it doesn't take much to drag it back down again. I never noticed this with the vanilla version.
Was just wondering if anyone else had reported this, or if it was just me.
Hm, strange. Perhaps the area you're near has lots of high traffic?
Or, since the Uboat is now drawn as a large (1024*1024) texture (re the direction rose around it), this could be causing slowdown.
On my system all is well - but then again I have an AMD 3200 and a GeForce 6600, so it should be.

I'm thinking it might be due to high traffic, but like I said, I have "no map updates" option set. I don't think it's with my pc specs as it drops from 100FPS to 2-3 FPS - although it may very well be the direction rose - When I'm zoomed in close enough to get the slowdown, I'm usually running a bearing line thru it.

@oRGy: Great mod! I hope this one isnt overlooked by many people owing to the popularity of other mods, especially of RUB.
I have been loath to use the newer versions of RUB and similar mods since I am never happy with all the changes so I usually just cannibalize them and put single files into my personal mod. This one however is to good to pass over! I was amazed to see what I have been missing. The Harbour traffic is not overdone like it used to be, the operations mod with all the new cities is just great, a german radiolog for the whole war, all new ships in one package etc etc ..
Now I will use IuB as my new base for mods ;-)

oRGy- Great great work with the mod. I'm loving it.
But...I'm still having problems with the "black daytime sky of pestilence and doom". I'm running a GeForce Ti4600, and I've tried using the 81.85, 78.01, 77.77, and 77.72 drivers with no success.
I installed just IUB over a clean install of SH3 with JSGME and I'm loading it with SH3 Commander.

I'm sure the guys won't mind me jumping in here, but for anyone that is getting the "black sky during day" problem *and* they are using SH3Cmdr and JSGME, try this FIRST:
1. Perform a rollback in SH3Cmdr.
2. Disable the Atmosphere mod in JSGME.
3. Re-enable the Atmosphere mod in JSGME.
This combination of steps "cleans" your SH3 files. And, as a number of people have already attested, it has worked for them with this and many other mods.
To avoid similar file problems with *any* mod in the future, ALWAYS rollback SH3Cmdr BEFORE installing/enabling new mods. Whilst usually not a problem, it is always a good habit to get into to ensure that you limit the potential for file clashes.
Also note that you can adjust water density via SH3Cmdr in conjunction with running this mod without causing side effects.
This could be the problem...
And if not, there is always the option of installing the 8km version of the atmospheric mod. Check this thread: http://www.subsim.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=44762&start=0

Whenever I install on my system (GF6600) it all appears fine, and for most others too. And why would installing the atmosphere mod fix it, when the atmosphere mod files are virtually identical to the files in IuB?
Anyone any good ideas?

Um....could it be a pallette issue? Are all files using the same pallatte?
How do you mean?
All skycolor/reflect files are texture files which are in 24bit tga format.

I'm not sure. I was just thinking if one of the files were edited and the palette was altered or something. Just a guess.....
I've downloaded IuB v 1.1 and had it burnt onto a disk for me, but when I go to unzip it my computer freezes and I have to restart it. :dead: I tried using both winrar and winzip - same result.
Any ideas? I'm thinking the file has not downloaded correctly and could be corrupted, but it did show up as 205mb like it's supposed to.
Also, is there much diff between IuB v1.1 and RuB v 1.4?
Thanks in advance.

oRGY,
Not sure why the black sky?
I did a clean install of SHIII with the patch and then added JSGME and then the IUB.
The first mission the sky was fine and on the 2nd mission I used the latest version of SH Commander to start SHIII and the sky was black.
I then installed the Atmosphere 8km mod and all is fine again.
My system is a AMD 64 3500+
1 gig Ram
PCI-E Radeon X850 with the latest Catalyst control center etc...
The first install with IUB I did get the dreaded black sky before I did the clean install.
Hope this helps some and BTW, great work to all the modders out there!

oh! What's this? Where can I get it?
Aha, so SH3 Commander is the culprit! Well I'll be. I wonder what exactly is doing that? I'll get on to JSCones immediately.
Hmm.. I wonder if it's the changed water density and options in SH3 Commander which edits the scene.dat?

Don't get too excited there oRGy - as I have raised many times in other threads, this problem is caused by people installing and/or uninstalling mods while SH3Cmdr files are installed into the game.
If players always remember to rollback SH3Cmdr *before* enabling or disabling mods (or in gringle84's case uninstalling SH3), they won't have this kind of problem. Here's what I have posted elsewhere to help get players back on track after they've done this...
Everyone: Just remember, last in first out and ROLLBACK!

Let me explain what is happening:
1. User launches career via SH3Cmdr. For ease of explanation, let's say this is the first time SH3Cmdr has ever been used. When "Launch SH3!" is pressed:
-Any file that SH3Cmdr will overwrite or modify is backed up into SH3Cmdr
-Adjustments or file updates are then made.
2. User plays patrol and exits SH3 after patrol is finished.
3. User then installs IUB/Atmosphere/any mod via JSGME which backs up files first. What files will it be backing up? The SH3Cmdr installed ones. Why? 'Cause they're still in the game! Keep this in mind... JSGME then copies into SH3 the mod files.
4. User launches career via SH3Cmdr. Now, when "Launch SH3!" is pressed:
-Files backed up by SH3Cmdr in step 1 will be returned to the game
-Any file that SH3Cmdr will overwrite or modify is backed up into SH3Cmdr
-Adjustments or file updates are then made.
See what's happened? The mod file(s) installed at step 3, in this case say scene.dat, is replaced at step 4 by the scene.dat file that was backed up at step 1, ie *before* the mod was installed. Thus, the newer file disappears for good. This equals black sky.
However, had the following occurred:
1. User launches career via SH3Cmdr. When "Launch SH3!" is pressed:
-Any file that SH3Cmdr will overwrite or modify is backed up into SH3Cmdr
-Adjustments or file updates are then made.
2. User plays patrol and exits SH3 after patrol is finished.
3. User rolls back in SH3Cmdr. All SH3Cmdr files will be removed from the game and files backed up by SH3Cmdr in step 1 will be returned to the game.
4. User then installs IUB/Atmosphere/any mod via JSGME which backs up files first. JSGME then copies into SH3 the mod files.
5. User launches career via SH3Cmdr. Now, when "Launch SH3!" is pressed:
-There are no backup files in SH3Cmdr so no rollback will be performed hence no SH3 files will be overwritten with previous versions.
-Any file that SH3Cmdr will overwrite or modify is backed up into SH3Cmdr
-Adjustments or file updates are then made.
there'd be no problem. The newly installed mod version of scene.dat would be backed up by SH3Cmdr and correctly restored by SH3Cmdr.
For those who like diagrams this equates to:
...Run SH3Cmdr
...Rollback SH3Cmdr
Enable Mod
...Run SH3Cmdr
...Rollback SH3Cmdr
etc
as opposed to:
...Run SH3Cmdr
Enable Mod
...Rollback SH3Cmdr
...Run SH3Cmdr
etc
I hope this makes it clear. Pls let me know if not. I've now added this requirement as an important note in the Help.html file.

I have tried both IuB 1.01 and RuB 1.44, and for my playing tastes IuB seems to be a better fit. I am fairly new to the game so I will become more 'hardcore' realism with each campaign but not for now.
I do have a question for oRGy or anyone else that can answer for that matter...
The only think I don't like with IuB is the milk cow mod. This is one I had chosen not to use beforehand. I applaud the creator, he has done the best possible within the confines of the game, but I would rather do without it unless we can continue on the same patrol afterwards.
I figured I could just simply not use them. I used SH3 Commander to redo the time spent in port. I did not see an option to change the time for a decal change. I found this line in the Basic.cfg file. It is also in the Basic1x.cfg and BasicRuB.cfg. Only in the Basic.cfg is it set to 14 days, but I set this back to 1 and somehow after re-starting game it goes back to 14 days..
So my question is, I have a clean install of SHIII, patched to latest version.. I have all the contents of IuB 1.01 extracted to a temprary folder... how do I install everything BUT the milk cow mod. (As I am new to this game I am new to modding it and require step-by-step newb instructions if anyone is willing to spend the time I would greatly appreciate it and will name a member of my crew after you :P )
Thank you to the mod community, I was enjoying the game before but have always been a game modder, and you guys are doing amazing work here extending the life of this game. Sometimes the companies will see this. Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat were mods that were so sucessful that the parent company picked them up as retail products... until the mods HL was dying. Many feel that the mods (these 2 in particular) are what kept the possibility of a HL2 alive many years after the original.
If you've updated the days spent in base in basic.cfg and changed back the emblems time, then there's no need to do anything else as milkcows will appear but cause no other issues.
The base time thing is for me the only drawback for the milkcows, there are no other issues they introduce into the game, other than the fact that they exist where they were historically.
-edit-
Though actually on typ ix for example you might get long patrols that are expected to be complete with a milk cow.
In this case, use the flotilla.cfg from Real U-Boat 1.44 over the IuB one.

Having a bit of bother with the fatigue model so haven't got even got out of the North Sea to see what goodies are in the update yet....though I'm sure they'll be good goodies!
Thing is I didn't like the idea of no fatigue so I thought I could fix that via SH3 commander. I set it to RUB fatigue model and away I went. By the time I was leaving Wilhelmshaven and into 1024xTC for a bit my diesel crew was knackered....on 1024x. I thought I'd maybe done something wrong and tried again with the same result. Then I checked out the RUB defaults folder in IUB and found the readme. I copied the basic.cfg file into the SH3\data\cfg folder but I'm still getting the same result.
I was running through SH3 commander set to the RUB fatigue model this time also. It was all working fine with IUBv1. Any ideas anyone?

I believe, and will be more than happy to stand corrected, that the fatigue model inherent with IUB requires(?) a change to the 3DRender TC value from the default 32x up to 1024x.
The next release of SH3Cmdr will allow to you change the 3DRender TC value from 1024x back to 32x if you prefer to use alternate (ie RUb) fatigue models (SH3Cmdr will actually allow you to change any TC value to whatever you want). In the meantime, you can change it manually in ...\My Documents\SH3\data\cfg\main.cfg.
Yup, JSCones is correct. Changing the 3dREnder value up to 1024, as well as enabling you to zoom around in the 3d views, is reputed to solve an aircraft spawning bug.
I have no idea if it really does or not, but a stab in the dark is better than no stab as they say.

I did as you said JScones and it worked a treat! Back to sinking and being sunk....
Thanks for your help, I appreciate it!
I also don't like the RUB fatigue model. My question is would the "Vitamins" mod previously created, which I never had a problem with, change anything other than fatigue in IUB. To put it another way does IUB change anything other than fatigue within the basic.cfg file?
And also I don't quite understand the fix that JScones has suggested.
Since the release of the new HOllywood Advanced my last question is now irrelavent but I have a new one.
With the recent release of RUB 1.45 will there be a new IUB which will incorporate the new additions? I'm especially interested in the "decks awash" feature but am wary to swap in the relavent files from RUB 1.45 out of fear that some other unrelated feature might be written over.

I have too agree with P_Funk – the "Vitamins" fatigue mod is the one I prefer above all others. I want there to be some fatigue, but I don't want it to be a game-dominating issue.
Now what would happen in I installed this mod over IUB and Commander?
