It is with many regrets that it is my duty to inform you that U-48, with all hands, was lost in December of 1940, in the murky waters southwest of Ireland.
U-48, commanded by Capt. Underpants(a most unremarkable fellow) had a remarkable carreer, having sunk more tonnage than any other U-Boot during her 14 patrols as a terror of the deep, and having only one causulty, the result of a lucky shot from the British RAF.
U-48, following orders to attack a large enemy convoy guarded only by a 10K ton cruiser and 3 flower corvettes succeeded admirably during her first attack run, positioning herself in the center of the convoy, and sinking not only the cruiser, but 2 T3 tankers as well.
Apparently emboldened by this and the fact that only one of the Flower Corvettes had any idea that an attack was underway, and was unable to launch a counter-attack due to the fact that U-48 was submerged directly underneath a C2 Cargo ship, the crew loaded up all tubes and the ship commenced a second attack run on the surface, harrassing the larger cargo ships with torpedos and swapping deckgun fire with the two nearby flower corvettes, as she manuvered between enemy ships.
A buildup of carbon monoxide or possibly spoiled meat is suspected to be a factor in the unusual attack as Capt. Underpants was observed to be manning the flak gun himself, laughing hysterically, and yelling "Say allo to my leetle friend!"
Having sunk two of the three Flower Corvettes, and two more C3 Cargo ships, U48 turned portside to bring her guns to bear on the final Corvette, which had appeared out of nowhere at 600 meters, only to realize too late that it was, in fact, a C Class Destroyer.
U-48 was last seen attempting to dive to safety when the Destroyer rammed her broadside at full speed. No trace of ship or crew could be found afterwards.
End Transmission
It is only now, that I realize the hardest thing to do, is to delete the carreer and start anew.....
P.S. It's surprising how attached you get to ship and crew. I only wish that SH3 had a better carreer summary when you died. :hmm:
