I just watched "The Color of War" on the History channel. The episode I saw dealt with american submariners in the Pacific during WWII. Very interesting information with color archival footage. Has anyone else seen it?

Can our overseas friends get the History channel?

Come to think of it, it'd be cool to have a Pacific, WWII version of SHIII. Attacking sanpans, picking up downed aviators, it could be sweet! :|\

My understanding is that is what SH IV is supposed to be.

I just did, Twichy! BTW, I believe it's a multiple part documentary on WWII. Great archival footage from combat cameramen. I went to the History Channel website and apparently you can buy videos of the program. I didn't see the specific name of the episode that I watched, but it was cool! :|\

They offer a 3 DVD set, including an episode called "silent and deep", the one I saw.

For those of you that get the history channel, you might check the listings...I'm sure they will repeat it.

Yeah saw it too.

Never heard the story (forget the boat, Wahoo maybe?) when a skipper sunk a troop ship and proceeded to shoot all men in the water...

Quite a grim day.

Curious wether German U-boat capitans were viewed with more hatred than their American counterparts, and relatedly, which side was more brutal...

:hmm:

Yeah...that was a sad scene. Was it the Yazoo?
Not to change the subject, but the faces of the sailors on the show really reminded me of the avatars used here in the group. I mean really...it was a bit spooky. :o

Maybe I just spend too much time with SHIII...at least that's what my wife says. :rotfl:

Here's one from the History Channel:

I just watched a show on the Military Channel called "Battlefield", and it was part 2 of the Battle of the Atlantic (I missed part 1, apparently!). It was pretty interesting.

At the end of the show, they said that by the end of May, 1943, Dontiz had pulled all of the u-boats out of the Atlantic due to losses (the Germans lost 47 u-boats in May, '43).

Last year I watched a 4 part series on the History Channel called "The Battle of the North Atlantic", and it was all about the u-boat war. I'll be darned if I can find that DVD set anywhere, though.

:smug: Got it!!! On VHS along with many others related to WWII U-boats.

I am lucky enough too, to have much VHS footage of interviews with Erich Topp, Jurgen Oesten, and Kretschmer to name a few...

ALL THANKS to the History Channel!!!

Baron: My link was for a different DVD.

Yours was for the Color of War series, mine was for one called "Dead Mens Secrets: Secrets of the Sea Wolves".
