View Full Version : CRTL-P
Only a week ago I bought SHIII, I just love it. It's realy a beatifull game especially if you play it on realistic.
The problem: I only got a ATI radeon 9000 Pro....
So im planning to buy a geforce 6600 GT. But I heared about the CRTL-P thing.
So will I miss out on the graphic effects if I buy a nivida geforce card?

What Ctrl-P thing? Haven't heard of it, I'm embarrassed to say... :(
I believe the Cntrl P thing was a patch fix to turn off particle display in UZO and perhaps periscope views.. some glitch was causing probs for nvidia users.. it might be resolved by now though..

Ctrl P was a "work around" for the "uzo spray bug" that affected some Nvidia cards. Basically if you looked through the Uzo all you would see was white and would bring your frame rate down to a slide show.
The bug was corrected in patch version 1.3 ? I belive.
Copied directly from the SHIII updates page:
Nvidia workaround was improved. First time when the user (with Nvidia) uses UZO the spray bug will appear. If the user uses Ctrl+P that option will be stored in the main.cfg file and will not be necessary to switch off again that particle system (because the main.cfg will be updated). The Ctrl+P now is linked only with the particle system from the sub so the other particles in the game will not be affected. When you will exit to free camera or any other view the particle system from the sub will be automatically restarted and the player will not have any issues related to it. After this the player can enter/exit UZO station without any other worries about Ctrl+P.
We didn't make this ON by default because there are the users of ATI cards that have no need of this workaround. The N-Vidia users can also add in the main.cfg in video section, this line:
HideParticlesNearView=Yes;
Like StdDev said it turns of the particle display in the UZO.
I don't know if nvidia has fixed it in a driver update. But I do know that Ubi's patch is merely a 'work around' rather than a real patch.
So I'm afraid I will miss out a little on the graphic effects when I buy the geforce card.

Guess I dident make it clear.
The work around was introuduced in one of the first patches that came out as a ... well... a work around.
The bug has been sort of corrected in a subsequent patch.
How it works is if you are forced to use the Ctrl P work around once, the program remembers that and does it for you automatically from there on out. When you leave the Uzo the program turns particle effects back on automatically. You wont miss much.
Automaticly Uzo=particles off else particles on. Periscope too I think.
I dont know wether or not the latest Nvidia drivers addressed this or not but I doubt it.
Again you wont really notice anything.
Hope this clears it up for you
