Checked into La Spezia to repair from damages after crossing through Gibralter, and somehow overnight my sub and watch crew were buried in concrete!
I think I have seen this bug somewhere before, but it was still very strange. (Or if its not a bug, those Italian construction workers in La Spezia are building up the base way too fast!)
Concrete must be fresh because these guys are still wiggling.

Does anyone know if the latest harbor traffic mod fixes this?

That was just the finale to my weird journey to La Spezia.
The reason we checked in there in the first place was because our attack periscope, observation periscope, and watch tower were all listed as destroyed.
Oddly enough, I could go up on the tower and use the UZO, but when I tried to move the crew or officers, they would not go.
Then as we made our was to the Italian port for repairs (under time compression) somebody ordered the watch crew to go on duty. The next thing I knew, all four of them were up there listed as dead! The weather was calm, we were not under attack. (Or maybe they were under attack and didn't report it???? and becuase they didn't report it the TC didn't drop to a slower rate????)
Whatever the cause of the mysterious deaths, we took the men into the forward torpedo room and "buried" them.
But the next day the same thing happened again!
Four more deaths. The crew were getting scared, and so I guess they wisely decided not to go up there anymore.
But as I said before, in the end we were all entombed in concrete in the harbor, and thus was the very strange ending of my latest u-boat career. :o :stare:
Upset someone in the Mafia did we?

Looks like you had the misfortune to be part of Italy's "La Spezia Experiment", the little-known sequel to the Americans' Philadelphia Experiment :)

Brings back eerie memories I have of visiting huge, derelict u-boat shelter on the River Weser in northern Germany. It's still standing partly because the bodies of dozens of forced labourers are supposedly entombed in the concrete....

I doubt that. Corpses would seriously weaken the concrete by becoming hollow gas bubbles. There are far better way of disposing with bodies.

At least they don't have their heads sticking up out of the concrete! Something about this image really bothers me ... football practice anyone?

The bunker in question is called "U-Boot-Bunkerwerft Valentin". It is on the Weser in northern Germany and was built between 43 and 45. It is a huge and extremely terrible looking place. Especially if you get a chance to peer into the interior.
Perhaps knowing the history made it seem worse. Some ten thousand slave labourers built the place. Four thousand died on the spot while working.
I've family living in the area and they say the locals have always claimed people were entombed in the walls during construction...
Skubber,
I guess that in HT mod you will start your patrol on the correct place. But tell me what version you are running and what mods. Maybe it's a mistake mine on the LND layer.

Hi Rubini,
I'm fairly certain it is not your mod. I was running the HT145c standalone mod when this happened. (That's a terrific mod, by the way! One of my favourites.)
But to test, I uninstalled the mod, and I still had this strange restart. I'm guessing if you start a mission in La Spezia under the 1.4b patch you are going to have this illogical starting position. (I haven't tested with a completely unmodded game, though.)
I am going to install the newer HT mod anyway, and I was curious to know if it would include a fix for this bug.

Wow, this thread has just became one of my favorite of all time. I didn't read the dates on the posts until bigboywooly made the point. That's some funny stuff.
