I got SHIII a couple months ago. Upon trying to load it, I found I needed a new video card. So I got one, and while I was at it decided an additional Gig of RAM would be good. Between then and now I've had a complete reformat of the C drive, lost everything on it that wasn't saved to CD a few weeks prior.

Now it's today and everything is up and running. So, starting from scratch, I took off on my first career patrol. It was almost entirely the WORST weather I've ever seen. Wind, rain (and more rain), high seas, pitching and rolling like the end of the world was upon me. I came up on a hapless coastal merchant and tried to fire a torpedo. What a joke. I couldn't get a fix on him to save my butt. That's when I learned you can't use the deck gun in bad weather. Bad weather indeed - my lookouts would be submerged 20 feet under the roiling seas. Good grief! I dove to give the crew a break (you know, like in the movies), but that didn't help much. I just used up my air and batteries and had to surface to 'save myself' from dying of bad air...

After what seemed like ever, I got back underway in fairly livable seas (still too rough to use the deck gun) and wasted a batch of torpedos that just bounced off the hulls of merchant ships. Finally I sunk one ship with my remaining on-board torpedo (not an external extra one - which I never did figure out how to get below decks and loaded) and decided to head for home. I was nowher near the patrol zone I was assigned to. The weather got downright balmy and I ran across a couple more merchant ships, which I did mange to sink with the deck gun. FINALLY!

When I got back to port I was suprised to find that I acquired some reknown, and with that, finished out my crew. I passed out some awards and promoted a couple people. Man, this being God is cool!

So now I'm on my way out on the second patrol, and now I've found out how to take screen shots. LOOK OUT WORLD!
