Escorts crashing in harbor with RUB1.44 ??

Seems like I'm seeing this more and more since the last couple of RUB versions - happened again as I was leaving Wilhelmshaven earlier today - my escort abandoned me as we were heading out of the inner harbor and decided to hit the docks real hard - see below for the result:

I saw this happen several times before as well, though they usually just ran aground when we were leaving Kiel before. Fortunately, I didn't hit any mines on the way out on my own this time, but if I do when this happens again I think I'm gonna have to make an exception to my DID rule.

Is there some minimum distance you have to stay away from these guys? I was not paying a lot of attention this time 'cause I was testing some menu text changes and may have gotten a bit close to the escort - around 300m I think. Maybe he freaked out thinking I was gonna ram him - he must have heard that destroyers don't fare well against these Type VII can openers :)

I believe there is a (known) bug where if you reload from a save with ships - or planes - nearby in the harbor, they sort of freak out.

I've had some funny things happen when I do this, like planes flying in wee little circles, then bursting into flame. Or little fishing boats trying to ram destroyers, etc.

Any chance this happened just after reloading from a save?

Probably so - I've been trying to track down the cause of some CTDs I started having the other day and wound up reinstalling the game and all my mods, so I had probably saved just after starting a new patrol and then came back to that point for my next game session. I'll have to check and see if it happens next time when I don't save at that point and just head on out - thanks for the tip.

Using the RUB 1.44mod i got message saying theres a taskforce stationary in Grid AF86 (not quite sure but know its AF80 something cos i did this mission a few days ago now) so i went there and found 3 Troop ships and one fiji class, and the destroyers all sitting there like ducks. Sunk them all, had to go out of the bay and surface to reload then went back in and finsihed them off. A very quick patrol. :up:
