In the words of Arnold "I'm going to ask you a bunch of questions"

1) Whats the difference between Full Ahead and Ahead Flank? It seems like its the same speed
2) Is there a better way to turn to face ships to fire torps at em?
3) When I hear a contact on the sonar, I rush over to it and nothing is there. How do I better pursue these contacts?
4) Patrol above or below water. Right now I've been cruising above water until I see a ship and then I dive below.
5) Sometimes I see contacts on my map that are like 200km away from me. Whats up with that?
6) My WO shouts "Contact at X degrees" Whats the easiest way to to get there? Is there a mod that makes the degree marker on the compass easier to see?

Thats all I can think of right now.

Nother one
7) Is there a particularly effective patrol pattern?

Twitchy:

1) When you get enough renown and the engine upgrades become available, flank will be faster than full ahead, but both burn lots of fuel. You don't want to use either too long.

2) You don't say how you turn, so I don't know what would be a better way. I know when contacts are far off, I will plot waypoints on the map. When I'm in close, especially around a convoy, I switch the compass to the port/starboard degrees indicator, and will turn the boat that way, and use the apostrophe key to bring the rudder amidships when I want to stop turning.

3) When you go to the hydrophone station, you have to manually turn the hydrophone to the bearing of the sound contact if you want to hear it. Just click on the left or right side of the wheel and it will turn.

4) Early in the war (39 - 41), above water, especially outside of the aircraft range (check your nav map for the range circles). Starting in 42, air patrols get heavier, so don't go any higher than 256 on TC when you are on the surface and in an air range circle or you will find yourself quickly sunk.

5) Those are radio reports of surface contacts, usually single ships, soimetimes 2 travelling together. Plot a course to intercept and increase speed! You can get some easy kills that way. But they move too, so you have to plot a course that gets you ahead of them. If you see the contact "tail" on the nav map, use the ruler tool to draw a line representing their course, then plot your course to intercept them farther down the line you've drawn.

6) Your watch officer gives you a bearing to contact. Go to the Uzo and turn it to the bearing he indicated. You'll see the ship he spotted. The front of your boat is always bearing 000, no matter what direction you are heading. It sounds like you are using the God's Eye View since you are seeing contacts on your nav map, so the easiest way to get there is to zoom in your nav map to the lowest level you can still see both your boat and the contact, and plot a course with the waypoint tool.

7) I've never found 1 patrol pattern better than any other, although when I use one it's usually the hourglass, simply because I like patrolling that way....

Enjoy the game!

Thanks ALOT. You just passed on some vital info to a new generation of subsimmers.
