Is there a randomizer or something that determines what ships will be in harbor when you start the mission? Or during the mission will they change?
Or do I need a mod for that?
It would be nice to be able to sneak into Scapa Flow and be rewarded with a decent ship at dock for a change. Damn subnet sank me last time because of time compression.

Anyone? :(
I think it´s randomized in the beginning of the mission.
The stock game puts BB´s to Scapa Flow on certain dates, if I remember right.
If you don´t have the Harbor traffic mod already, download it. It puts docked ships to enemy ports.

Yeah, I checked that out previously but it comes with too many other junky mods that I don't want particularly, and I'm not inclined to fool around trying to figure out how to remove everything but the new ships in enemy harbors. :(

It's randomised there is a topic somewhere in the forums or a link to a site where it tell's you where all the capital ships are dates locations etc just can't remember off hand where to point you.
One thing if your around LE in mid 43 ther's a Illustrious class carrier lurking about you can take her out in the open sea or venture into LE and take her out your choice.

I've started a campaign towards realism; I still allow the outside camera, but have decided that if I'm sunk, I'm sunk, and no retries (i.e. gratuitous saves). Now, if and when I go down to the bottom, it will be a serious test of my realism resolve- I'm already in love with my crew (6 patrols) and would hate to lose them.
The point is that there's no more port hunting for me. I'm not sure how to detect the holes in the subnets without using the outside camera. Furthermore, it so damn dangerous in ports that I probably wouldn't make it out alive. Can't risk it. Especially given that patrolling DDs can move through port structures (making hiding a bastard). But also, I've found ports to be very low yield. Not only are they often empty, but I've found that parked merchants tend to be very difficult to sink - bad angle, and are somehow tougher than when at sea. So, all in all, no reason to bother with ports. There's plenty of juicy tonnage out on the open water...my favourites are the lonely Large Cargos that have no idea that they are sailing straight into my trap...
