Saw the video on sale at a shop, it was labelled as the "Director's Cut". Duration as stated on the box is about 210 mins (3.5 hrs). Should I pick this up?

Sure thing. The Director's cut for me is the best of both worlds. It adds some depth of the mini series to the movie theater version and is also digitally remastered and in Dolgy digital (I think). So go for it!
Definitly! IMO it's the best subfilm alongside Hunt for Red October. It's also amazing what they did with the resources that they had.

It's worth the buy, but don't miss the miniseries. :D ;)

Only buy it AFTER you have picked up a copy of SHIII. You wouldn't want to watch the movie and NOT have something fun to play with that is similar to the movie... But if you already have SHIII, then I say go for it!
The Director's cut is definately the best movie of the three versions. The uncut 5 hour version is good for die hard u=boat fanatics like me, but for the pure entertainment value the director's cut is the best. Joe S
I found the "Original" version more entertaining than the other two. I know the original is long, but I never felt bored when I watched it.

I agree with Dowly. I have all the versions and I like the "Original, Uncut Version" (also known as the Miniseries) far more than the others.

I hated killer clowns from outer space, but that's just me.

oooo...I gotta get that. Have you gotten Shawn of the dead? That was pretty good too. Rather tongue in cheek, but well done.
Hi,
OK OK OK how many times do i have to repeat myself (i own the director's cut BTW) the best version of DAS BOOT is the book - it has so much more to offer as an experience of WW2 life on a U-boat, as the film(s) don't use the entire book.

I read the book and I have to agree...I learned more from it than any of the movies. As far as the movies go, my preference is the "Original, Uncut Version"...

 3 versions? :o
Judging by the replies, there are:
a. Original movie version (maybe 90 or 120 mins long)
b. Director's Cut (which I asked about - 210 mins long)
c. Uncut or miniseries version (5 hrs long)
Did I get it right?
BTW, the Director's Cut version is safe in my grubby paws :D
Thanks all for answering!

Haven't seen that yet, I'll rent a copy tommorow. Heh...zombies....zombies and bears are about the only things that scare me any more.... :hmm:
I didn't know there was a Das Boot book. I allways prefer books to a movie, as they (in general) allways seem more imersive. Probably because your brain is handleing all the multimedia. :D

The director's cut is really amazing and very fun. if you like SHIII, you MUST have it because will inmerse you even more in the U-Boat way of live.
But, of course, almost allways, the books are better than the films.
Hehe, when I see a good book, I always check if there´s a movie made of it. If there is, I choose the movie, my patience isn´t made for the books. :)
