Anyone in the know whether this is present in the SH3 map ? And, if not, can it be added by some land mod ?
Also, this leads me to a bigger question - how precisely is the geogrpahic aspect of the game represented, i.e. are there islands like St. Kilda present on map ?
Hi,
There is a shallow section on the map at the position of Rockall bank - so it has been modelled to some degree!

yep, but would be good for the "rock" to actually stick out of water...
Oh does it IRL? Interesting I didn't know that. :hmm:
I wonder, since now we can import 3D objects into SHIII...
I bet someone could make a new Location for it and stick an actual rock there :hmm:

It looks like this if anybody is interested in modelling it.

The site has much information and many links. Rockall does stick above the water. Alas, the site hasn't a picture of it.
EDIT: This site does have a picture: http://www.therockalltimes.co.uk/rockall/picture-gallery.html
EDIT OF EDIT: Oh. Badhat has posted all this good stuff already! Never mind, then.

.
...and from that site, I just figured out why Rockall is not included in SH3:
The United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland have agreed a delination which ignores Rockall's existence and have granted exploration rights.
:rotfl:
Wow, had no idea that out in Mid-Atlantic is a ... rock. Great link to the paper by the way.

It's interesting to imagine how different WWII would have been if the Atlantic had as many island chains as, say, the Pacific. Just think of island-hopping warfare in that type of environment :hmm: . I think it would have benefited the allies for the most part; convoys could have had continuous air cover without needing escort carriers from 1939 onwards; plus, it was the allies and not the Germans who had sufficient cargo ships and invasion barges to conduct that kind of fighting.

See a good image of Rockall at:

Wow, it is about 20 metres high and wide. You could hide a sub tower behind it :rotfl: .

Looks like Rockall is another Hans Island, at least as far as Denmark is concerned.

...I guess the gulls have been writing their autographs on it for ions. In their finest, watery chalk, they write--"Look out!! Big rock right in your way!!" :rotfl:
