View Full Version : trying to make a "multi-monitor" tool for sh3

well sh3 always opens on the primary monitor

In my case, it isn't the way i prefer as my primary display is a 17" LCD and my secondary a 22" CRT .
I'm tired of changing my primary monitor each time i want to play so i'm working on a way to make sh3 lauchs on the secondary display like that no pop up of other application problems for exemple.


the other idea i had right now is to try to prevent sh3 minimizing (well if the screen resolution doesn't change there is no problem) and muting if whe clic on an application on the other screen

will anyone will be interested in this?

Until yersterday, when my second monitor died, I would have been very interested in this idea. For the ability to choose which display to view on if nothing else.
Give it untill payday, then we shall be back in the land of duel view!
Being able to run sh3 and use a second monitor without sh3 minimising would be great... :up: As to the 'how' of it, that's best left to minds more technical then my own :roll:

I use to have a two monitor setup, mainly for work, but for gaming its really not worth it until they make it that the game can spit onto both screens so you have a larger game view, but all it does is show the game on both screens (the same picture), the only game i came across that works is battlefield 2 you can have the commander screen on monitor two and the gameplay on the other. Or what does work with a bit of fiddleing is have SH3 on the first monitor and running SH3 Editor on the other.
But If you try to split SH3 so it shows up on both screens as one larger view, usually monitor 2 will pop to the taskbar or it will show up as a black screen.
If you want the 22inch monitor to be your main view then you just need to change the settings in windows-display options and make the 22inch the Default monitor.

I use duel monitors for flight sim, but look at this set-up this guy has for his flight sim, imagine that in SH3:

If your using Nvidia you can define which is the "primary" monitor.

Thats what I had to do.

it's not a nvidia feature but a windows one.
the problem is that a lot of program refer to "primary" to create display, and if you have for exemple a browser , msn or other program that run in background, they can apper behind sh3... so the use of the other monitor to see wath hapen while playing is a reduced.

He uses a program called WidevieW, a freeware utility for Microsoft's Flight Simulator that creates a multi-monitor virtual cockpit using networked PC's. It only works for Flight Simulator. Internet connection is routed through all PC's on the network via a program called Sygate. With this particular setup, the client PC's do the work so the frame rates stay high on the server PC. The server is the PC where the pilot actually flies, where the input peripherals are connected, and where the instrument panels are displayed. The client PC's follow the server in real-time, and can be configured as virtual outside windows, or to show maps, external camera views, and more. Apparently, the only limitation is that the WidevieW utility is incapable of exhibiting AI planes and dynamic scenery on the clients. (Maximum PC - Sept.03)

As theres a lot of flightsim aces that will hit the roof when they see that picture. Hope you dont mind.

I've setup wideview for three monitors before. It takes a while to setup, and at the time you couldn't save the view settings(don't know if you can now), so it would take 20 minutes minimum to start everything up and get prepped for flight.

Not only does it not render AI flights and clouds(strange flying into heavy clouds with light clouds off to the right and none to the left), but also since each view is essentially a seperate craft, when you banked into a turn each horizon tilted independantly. It was fun for about a month.

Would be very cool to have a TDC map showing on a second monitor during attack runs though!
