View Full Version : Serious consideration to removing RUB

I'm giving serious thought to removing this mod. Why? Well apart from a few sound effects etc it seems to make one big change that i do not like and that is ship plotting.
Not once have i seen any ships plotted on my map since installing the mod despite telling the game to plot ships on my map as reccommended. I've cruised around on patrol for 20+ days and not seen a single ship, not had a single report.
Before hand, i could be cruising along and then get a red square on the map that would denote roughly where a lone ship was in a grid zone with a tail denoting its course. With RUB i get none of that and so I can't find anything....can't find anything you can't sink anything....cant sink anything, the game is just plain sailing and kinda boring to be honest.
Haven't removed it yet, i'm still thinking about it.
I´m using RuB 1.44 (or what was it!?) and I see the enemy ships on my map and from time to time I see a ship that is reported by BdU.

well i don't. :(
I don't recieve any plots or anything, which means I can't find anything and hence I can't sink anything, and If i can't sink anything I can't get my Knights Cross :know:
I'm sure there's something wrong, but i don't know where or how to fix it. I've done two complete re-installs for the game and still i don't get any ships plotted on the map. So for me, the game plays like sailing your U boat in a non-existant battle of the atlantic  because there are no other ships around :(

Have you install rub from a 1.4 clean games ??

yes. I've twice uninstalled the game completely, then reinstalled it twice, patched it, then installed RUB, then installed the RUB patch.
i just don't get any ships plotted on the maps. are there any screenshots of what a ship plotted on the map should look like for RUB?

Maybe a stupid a question but do you have the "No Map Contact Update" unchecked? It is easy to think it should be checked instead of unchecked.

yes i do have it unchecked, as is reccommended in the readme file.
If you're using the RUb 'patch' you're not using the latest version. The latest version is available here http://www.beerymod.com/RUb1.44.7z. The one change that's made in the last version is an adjustment to the map plotting to give more visible contacts

Do you have to disable RUB 1.43 or can you just overwrite everything with RUB 1.44?
Play it safe and disable 1.43 first. :)

RUb 1.44 is just RUb 1.43 with added stuff, so it should be okay to stack 1.44 on top of 1.43, but if you're using JSGME you'll probably want to remove RUb 1.43 first for the sake of neatness.

Well the mod is "Real"Uboat, meaning its not easy finding ships. But you will find them, just come back from 3rd patrol as i always start a new career when im trying out RUB mod (I still haven't done a whole campaign yet and i brought this game when it came out! :D ) This is cos i get to about the 15-16 patrol and hello another mode comes out so its back to a new career. I know theres no need to do this, but i think its important they we do. Anyways on my 3rd patrol useing the RUB 1.44 mod commanding a VIIB i sunk 7 (SEVEN!) Large cargoes and one destroyer on my way back to base, Yehaa! In the Stock game i have never come across a Large cargo so imagine my surprise when i first sighted one of these i thought WHF is THAT! At first i thought it was a modded cargo but no they did exist huh, They look such stupid looking ships that they deserve to be sunk :yep:
Only one fault i am getting with the RUB mode everytime i go out of the game my computer restarts then goes into a scan on startup the scan finds this error:
Recovering Nonvalid long folder entry from C:\program files\ubisoft\silent hunter 3, DataMenu GUI REC MANUAL. So im presumeing its talking about the Ship Manual? Anyways the scan does it thing , then i go back into windows and can still play RUB mod without any CTD etc., but i get that restart problem error everytime i go out of the game.
I have Visual Studio.Net installed i need this for work and it has tools such as debug running. Maybe this problem doesn't like the RUB mod and tries to correct it.
Still i can play the game so thats the main thing.

A non-valid long folder entry? I've never heard of that one before. Sounds like some kind of data leak or corruption.

Shocked me first time I read the log report for tonnage and glad it got corrected on this last incarnation of RUb. It was a great addition I thought just a bit too heavy and now its corrected/reduced - very nice...
So far as map contacts I have not had any major problems other than poor intercept tactics or plots on my part.... got to look a bit more expanded view of the map sometimes but the cons are there...

Actually come to think of it, my computer would be a good tester for up and coming mods. If she dont run on my system then you'll know she'll DEFINATELY run on yours. :D
