View Full Version : U-118 Sunk at Azores washed ashore at Hastings??
Hi, a little confused as all my data says that U118 was a type XB launched 23rd September 1941 and after 6 patrols was sunk ssw of Azores. U118 was commanded by KK Werner Czygan, He and 43 men were lost and 15 survivors were picked up by the destroyer USS Osmand Ingram. Have just discovered that U118 washed ashore at Hastings (long way from Azores!!), don't know the date but from the pics I'd say during or near the end of the war.
See here: http://www.navyphotos.co.uk/uboat%20u118.htm
Any other info would be appreciated,
Thanks.

Oops! Wrong war (http://www.uboat.net/wwi/boats/index.html?boat=118)! :yep:
That makes a little more sense, I would like to see a type UE 2 (not wrecked as the wreck looks like a VIIC or 1X) I thought the attire looked older than 40's, oh well there you go.
Thanks for the info.

Then there are the typos. The U-9 was sunk in the Black Sea on September 20, and I assume a typo, 1844!!!! ( "The Encyclopedia of U-Boats")

Yes, it's both a one-digit typo AND the wrong war (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crimean_War) - clearly they meant 1854
