Currently, the emblem I am using is what is shown in my sig pic.

My other sub, U-141, is using this emblem:

Being the type II is so small, and it has the net cutter, I thought the sawfish was a perfect match. :-j

The symbol for KAOS from Get Smart lol. I can just hear the captain saying "Missed him by THAT much" after missing a ship with a torpedo.

Once I figured out you could customize emblems, I know it had to be the ninja-bunny jolly roger ;)

I'm using this at the moment for my current career in U-55, my Type VIIB in May 1940 (before they decided not to put the numbers on the boats):

HOW does one make one's own emblems?! :arrgh!:

There are some threads from back somewhere that explain it better than I can remember how, but until you find them you can try this:

The emblems I've made have been 256x256 pixels, 72 pixels per inch, 16/24 million color .tga files - if you have a picture that isn't the whole square and you don't want a square background to show up, if you flood fill the surrounding background with a color that is R:9, G:13 and B:31 it will make the surrounding part of the square transparent so only the part you want will show up on your sub.

You can use any good image editing program that can save .tga files this way - I use JASC Paint Shop Pro (Version 7 or so IIRC).

There may be something about layers that I've left off - I never really fully understood that part even when I did mine, and it was a long time since I've messed with them.

Good luck and good hunting!

This is just a recommendation to anyone who wants to do their own emblems, or their own artwork of any sort.

The GIMP
http://gimp.org/

It's free, and plenty powerful. It's a little overwhelming at first, but just look for tutorials online and you'll figure it out in no time. I've never used Paintshop, so I don't know how it compares, but I know that it is pretty comparable.

I have since upgraded from GIMP to photoshop, but GIMP is also a great program. GIMP gives you more "bang for the buck," so to speak. Photoshop is over 300mb, while GIMP is less than 40mb. And even with the big size difference, performance is comparable between the two...

And not to mention, GIMP is FREE!!! That is the #1 reason to use it.

Since you have used them both, is Photoshop really that much better? I've always wondered :hmm:

I have Paintshop and photoshop, I mainly use the Paintshop, tried GIMP couple of weeks ago, it seemed a bit too messy for me.

I began using the 60 day trial version of Paintshop. Good stuff.

When the trial period ran out, I switched to the free version of GIMP. It's a good program. Really.

Then I went and got Photoshop CS2.

Of the three programs, I'd have to say that Photoshop is the best of the bunch... But really, all three are above adequate. If you have one, then you know what the other two are about. It's not really necessary to try out the competition...

Oh, and get Irfanview if you want to quicky view TGA's. Unlike PSP, PS, and GIMP, it has no loading time. It's a small download too.

But it's all up to you.

Trav_R

Yeah I'll definitely stick with the GIMP. I'm pretty impressed with it, and it's free. Since I'm not an artist and I don't make my living doing graphics type stuff, the GIMP is plenty for me. I wouldn't mind trying that Irfanview though, I don't like waiting on the GIMP to load up any time I just want to look at a TGA.
