Awesome! great timing too - I just started a new patrol to get rid of the U-boat War Aces (Wolfpack) mod pack I'd been experimenting with and go back to RUB1.43, at least until I could figure out a way not to get the super-accurate hydrophone sound contact lines I was getting with that other mod pack, so now I can try this one without having to trash a good patrol in progress :)

Thanks to the whole team for more great work - can't wait to fire this one up!

OOPS - got some weird stuff happening with this:

1. Loading screen - no indication of RUB where it was before as the red line moves during loading.

2. Got several pop up messages that my base had been changed to Wilhelmshaven as the game and my career were loading.

3. Found myself off the coast of Africa when my patrol started (I've seen posts about this little problem before but this is the first time it has happened to me)

This was my 6th patrol in the 2nd flotilla, out of Kiel - IIRC, that was part of the problem some folks were having with this Africa thing - guess if I can't find the old posts about how to fix the Africa thing I may just start a new career and see if that fixes any or all of these problems, before I decide to drop back to RUB 1.43

1. Loading screen - no indication of RUB where it was before as the red line moves during loading.

Then the installation didn´t work correctly, it shows "RUb 1.44" during loading on my system.

yeah - maybe so - guess I'll try again - when I went back to reload (after reading some old "africa" posts) I did get to start in Kiel but got a "null" patrol mission to basically transfer to Wilhelmshaven. Figuring I didn't want to go on a real patrol and risk having it screwed up when I got back, I decided just to sail around from Kiel to Wilhelmshaven and see if it would let me start a normal patrol from there.
Well, I got to the new base, and (although all I had done was sail straight from port to port) it told me I was "ausgezeichnet" and awarded me both the Ritterkreuz and the Ritterkreuz mit Eichenlaub :rotfl:

I guess maybe I'll start over with the install and see if I can get a good one this time

WHat are the main differences between the Real U-Boat and Improved U-Boat mods?

IUb contains much more visual and sound enhancements.

More info from the readme:
"Though IuB incorporates all improvements from Real U-Boat, some changes have been made to Real U-Boat 1.43 settings. These are:

- Deck gun reload rate changed to 10 seconds from 60.
- Harbour Traffic (Heavy, includes late war airstrikes) version by Rubini included.
- Flak crew can engage targets out to 1000m.
- B24 Liberator drops bombs instead of depth charges.
- Visibility underwater is increased slightly.

The original RuB versions of some of these files are included in the folder “RealUBoatDefaults”[...]"

Orgy's all in one mod is a very good piece of work, but I prefer slightly different mods then those included, so it is just as easy for my to use the mod enabler.

Thanks for the thought though. :)

Hi!

I was going to issue the latest IuB patch but I just noticed this. Typical!

Anyway for those concerned - I'll start work straight away on the next version of IuB, which will include all of RuB 1.44. Should be ready in about a day, maybe two.

Thanks to Beery and all the modders for their fine work!

Beery, I've got one question to you -
I see RUb 1.44 has "Added earlier (visible) version of single ship contacts."
Does it mean that in RUb 1.44 I have single ship contact marker on nav map, like in stock SH3 1.4b? I play RUb 1.43 now and I like no single contacts on nav map - how to change it in RUb 1.44?
Is it possible to include this option (visible or invisible single ship contacts on nav map) to SH3Commander?

To get the invisible contacts from RUb 1.43, just replace RUb 1.44's data\Menu\Gui\Units\UnitMShip.tga and UnitWShip.tga files with the RUb1.43 versions of the files.

I'm not sure if Jaesen will want to deal with the map contacts as a selectable option in SH3 Commander, as it involves swapping files rather than inserting text. I'll run it by him though.

I play RUb 1.43 with modified RUb1[1].43_AI_Sensors.dat by Jungman, which include snorkel fix.
Should I copy it to RUb 1.44 or not? Are snorkels visible for planes from 0 m or not in RUb 1.44?

RUb 1.44 has the exact same snorkel mod that RUb 1.43 had. I had no idea that there was a new AI_Sensors.dat file, or if there was one that came out after RUb 1.43 I thought the file was the same as in RUb 1.43. As for what range snorkels are visible from, I have no idea. I just trust in Jungman and CCIP's judgement as to what works.

Yup. I know the weather icon is corrupt. It still works fine, and I figured that the best way to find a way to fix it was to publish it as it is. It can't cause any problems, so there was no harm in it, and it is a better solution to the weather reports problem. If anyone knows how to fix the icon, please let me know.

LOL - I thought maybe the icon was supposed to be some sort of weather map with isobars or something - good to know it was just corrupted :)

BTW - what was the "weather reports problem" this change was trying to fix? I didn't find it all that strange to be asking the navigator for this report, since I figured he'd have to be keeping pretty close tabs on the weather in order to keep his plot of the U-boat's position up to date (I just never bothered to ask him while the boat was submerged, 'cause I figured he might have a hard time telling the weather from down there).

Why didn't I think of that? Er, I mean yeah... that's it - isobars! :)

You could cruise at 200m depth for 8 hours and still get an up-to-the-minute weather report from that depth. When it's the WO's duty you can only get one when the boat is surfaced. It's a minor thing, but important for better immersion (no pun intended).

Wow Beery, nice to have a new RUb to play with.

I'm still in the process of d/l it (on dialup so its going to take awhile), just wanted to know:

a) Does it have Sergbutos Vosper or wolfpacks or reflections fix (so I know which ones not to re-install) or will Rubini add that stuff to his HT mod?

b) Rubini's Dolphins?

c) The latest visibility fixes as well as fix for radar and radar warning equipment ranges?

Can't wait to check out the OPs mod.
Thank you for a job well done Beery!

I love the improvements in this latest version...especially the changes in the plotting map with contacts being visible. I like the new dials by Pascal, they're more realistic. The only drawback is on the depth guage...with the numbers so tiny its much harder to set a precise depth by clicking on the dial. Is there any way I could put back the original depth guage?

Georg_Unterberg
10-10-05, 01:11 PM
yes, the dials are very nicely crafted, but I will roll back to the old ones. The new dials are WAY too bright and that's disturbing during night attacks.
A real pity, dials look like the real thing, but I must see something at night through that scope/uzo.

Only one fault i am getting with the RUB mode everytime i go out of the game my computer restarts then goes into a scan on startup the scan finds this error:
Recovering Nonvalid long folder entry from C:\program files\ubisoft\silent hunter 3, DataMenu GUI REC MANUAL. So im presumeing its talking about the Ship Manual? Anyways the scan does it thing , then i go back into windows and can still play RUB mod without any CTD etc., but i get that restart problem error everytime i go out of the game.

I have Visual Studio.Net installed i need this for work and it has tools such as debug running. Maybe this program doesn't like the RUB mod and tries to correct it.

Still i can play RUB so thats the main thing. Just restarting everytime i go out is a pain.

Hello baxter,

I am a contributer to the dials in RUb 1.44. They dials are the work of Pascal but I made an improvement on them. The navigation dial had the same problem and I made it considerably more readable. I will work on making an updated version. I have to agree with you about the readability of the depth gauge and had been considering improving it. Now that I read your post it has motivated me to take action. ;) It may not end up being perfect but I believe I can make it better than what it currently is with reagrd to readability.

Stay Tuned,

yes i think the same. at night, at periscope , the bright dials blind my night vision a lot. and more in a dark room.

i just installed a darker tdc and damage screen by jungman for have a more darker screens ... and others contrast mods.

Finally i rolled back these dials and repport fuel, air ,dials by others that fit better for night combat.

Great work with the Rub.

1.) What ver. of RUB do I need to make a first time install?

2.) Can I keep the mods I now have installed?

3.) will I have to have both my subs (I have 2 carriers going) in base prior to installing RUB?
Thanks in advance

The new dials struck me as a bit bright for night use as well - I've started just using the numpad delete key to remove the dials (along with the rest of the HUD) when I want to look into the 'scope or UZO, and then I just toggle them back on when I've finished looking into the scope/UZO. It actually works quite well for me - better than I expected - might be worth a try for you.

Good luck and good hunting!

1.) What ver. of RUB do I need to make a first time install?

The latest, 1.44.

2.) Can I keep the mods I now have installed?

No, uninstall SH3, tell the uninstaller to keep your campaign saves, manually delete the main SH3 dir, reinstall SH3, patch it to 1.4b, then install RUb 1.44. After that you can install the other mods. Graphic and sound enhancement mods are ok, they shouldn´t cause any problems, but be very careful with gameplay mods. It´s best to post a list of your mods, then we can tell you what´s RUb-compatible.

3.) will I have to have both my subs (I have 2 carriers going) in base prior to installing RUB?

Yes.

I may lower the brightness on these dials for RUb. I don't think the authors will mind if I tone 'em down just a tad.

Beery
10-12-05, 01:41 PM
Actually, looking at it, the dials are bright, but they're not as bright as the text messages from your subordinates. I feel that, rather than adjusting the dials' brightness, a better solution is to just hit the numpad Delete key when using the periscope at night, which gets rid of the dials altogether.

Sorry, n00b question here. I'm new to mods and i've been reading about the crews having no fatigue in modded games.

Is this the case in both RuB and the newer IuB?

Do they get tired at a slower rate or not at all?

I always thought it was ok with the game as it was out of the box, in that, they do get tired quickly, but I saw it as a sign they needed a break from their current job, not necessarily as a sign that they needed some sleep.

Anyway, if anyone would clafiry exactly what fatigue effects come into play with IuB (I assume it's the same as what is in RuB)?

Thanks.

Another Rub Question :88)

The readme says the "AirpowerMod" is Part of the Rub1.44

My feeling says the Airplanes are Harmlessly like the Original one, and not so Powerfull like the pure "AirpowerMod". Is it possible to override
the Rub1.44 files with the "AirpowerMod" without any problems ?
