I'm in June 1940 and there is no VIIC available. I took a look at Basic.cfg and:

[SUBMARINE1]
NrMinOff=3
NrMaxOff=5
NrMinPO=9
NrMaxPO=16
NrMinSeamen=20
NrMaxSeamen=30
NbVersion=4
Version0=0 ; VIIB
Name0=VIIB
Month0=9
Year0=1939
Version1=1 ; VIIC
Name1=VIIC
Month1=6
Year1=1945
Version2=2 ; VIIC/41
Name2=VIIC/41
Month2=6
Year2=1945
Version3=3 ; VIIC/42
Name3=VIIC/42
Month3=6
Year3=1945
DaysSpentInBase=45

does it mean that VIIC is set not to be available at all? Why?

I'm using Rub 1.43 + berrywater.144 + flotilla.1.44 + latest sh3 commander.

If you are in the 2nd floatilla then you will never get a VIIC. The 2nd floatilla did not have VIIC throughout the war, and SH3 Commander reflects this fact.

hmm.. strange..
http://www.uboat.net/flotillas/2flo.htm

until 1941 IA, VIIA, VIIC, IX, IXC, IXC40 and XB
after 1941 IX, IXB and IXC

Are there other sources? u-boat.net does not list uboots per flotilla due to high number of them.

While your looking at the basic.cfg file, you may notice when it starts listing loadouts for each of the boats.

Intrestingly, for every boat, a loadout exists for it, 1 year before availalbilty date that is listed in an unedited basic.cfg. You can, for instance, simply chnage the availability date for most of the boats to be 1 year earlier, and the game wil still work as intended.

However, any farther back then the loadout years listed, or adding years to the a boats listed will result in a 0 patrol grid bug, or other weird abnormalities..

For example, the Type VCII C/41 is listed available in 1943. However loadouts exist for it from 1942 to the end of the war. You can simply edit the c/41 to say 1942 and thats that.

The VIIC/42 is a differently story. It has loadout slisted from 1943 to the end of the war. Adding additional years, (say 1939 through 1942) won't work, as the loadout config is different then all aother type 7 variants.

the XXI is a real different animal. Its has loadouts listed for 1943 to the end of the war. its availbiltiy date is 1944. Editing ot to be available in 1943 will only work for 1 of the 2 floatillas that get it. In otherwords if you want to be lurking around in a XXI in 1943 cursing the battery recharge , you can set it to 1943 and just start in thet 10th floatilla, and it will work fine. However, it DOES NOT work for the 7th floatilla and will resuilt in a 0 patrol grid bug.

(obviously ive spent waaaayy to much time on experimentation with this)

Maybe Beery can add to this conversation. I could swear that starting in 2nd Flottille you are initially assigned a Type VIIB in 1939 and carry it forward in 1940.

I think there was a discussion about this already. In the end people found the statistics from uboat.net are a bit sketchy.

In reality the 2nd floatilla really should've assigned you a VIIA instead of a VIIB, but VIIA does not exist in the game so.....

Roger that. When you consider the volume of information the U-Boat archivists must colate... inconsistencies are to be expected.

Me$$enger is 100% correct. Although 2nd Flotilla had the Type VIIA in 1939 this flotilla never had any Type VIICs. Uboat.net is wrong. '2nd U-boat Flotilla' by Lawrence Patterson is an exhaustive source for 2nd Flotilla's activities, and it gives full listings of all U-boats used by 2nd Flotilla. RUb uses this book as its source.

Roger that :) Thanks for information.

My request for transfer to 7th flotilla was accepted :) I started my 8th patrol, now from Kiel, on 29th July 1940 in my U-52 type VIIB. Patroling grid BF15. After 10 days, today I'm crossing AM52. I hope that BdU would change my base to St. Nazaire during this patrol. Or maybe it would happen next month? I conserve fuel in case of return trip to Kiel. Aircraft activity during day and night, 1-2 attacks per day.

Not much luck sinking ships yet, just 82t fishing boat south of Norway almost week ago.
