An updated version of SH3 Commander is now available. This is a minor core engine update - you must already have release 2 of SH3 Commander installed (available at www.beerymod.com/SH3Cmdr2.7z - the latest full download includes this patch).

Release notes:
- Now allows for the Silent Hunter III installation path to be forced via a /l switch, or manually entered if SH3 Commander cannot find it
- To accommodate future growth, career options are now contained in a pop-up menu, retitled "Actions"
- Now recognises and supports French text language setting in Silent Hunter III
- Added realistic crew transfers option; you may lose up to one crewman per patrol
- Added ability to force (corrected) ranks, medals and badges to display in Silent Hunter III in English (with American or British ranks) or German, regardless of in-game language setting
- Added ability to adjust deck gun reload times
- Added ability to adjust water density
- Now displays last patrol end date on existing career screen to allow for easier "specific days in base" calculations when wanting a specific next patrol start date
- Added new fatigue model based on RUb's 1x TC model
- Added new background image for generated HTML files
- Added new banner image

Screenshots (not actual size or scale)...

Main interface:

New Options screen:

To download, use your SH3 Commander "Updates" feature. As this is a minor release, once you have downloaded the 418kb file just simply unzip over your current installation and then read "SH3Cmdr Help.html". Whilst performing a "Rollback" prior to installing this update is not necessary, it is always recommended as good practice.

Notes:
-When you first load this version, please review the "SH3 Options" screen. There are new options available and failing to review prior to launching Silent Hunter III may result in unwanted (albeit temporary) gameplay experience.
-"Fatigue.cfg" is no longer used - Fatigue models are now stored in a file called "Crew fatigue models.cfg", located in the SH3 Commander "Cfg" folder. If you have added your own fatigue models to "Fatigue.cfg", you will need to copy and paste them to the new file.
-"U-boat numbers.cfg" has also been moved to the "Cfg" folder.

As always, pls post your questions/feedback/problems to this thread...

Thanks just in time, another patrol lost to CTD. :damn: :x :( At least a good reason to start in base again.

Edit only my second patrol ever lost but still.

It would be helpful if the transfer windows shows what qualifications the crew member had.

Great!

Looks like a nice update!

Could you give us advice on using SH3 Commander in conjunction with Jsgme?

I notice you now have both Merchant and water mods that could cause some problems because I have my own mods like these installed via jsgme now...

Please advise...

Love the idea of crew transfers; saves me having to do it manually at the end of each patrol. :D

Could someone please explain to me the difference between the RUB fatigue model and the RUB 1xTC fatigue model?

Again, like those above, many thanks for this excellent addition.

It should work with any mod.

Could you give us advice on using SH3 Commander in conjunction with Jsgme?

You don't need JSGME to install SH3 Commander because SH3 Commander is basically its own mod enabler. SH3 Commander works from outside SH3 and installs and uninstalls its own mods on the fly, so it doesn't need to be installed to the SH3 file structure.

It's just a very much slowed-down fatigue progression, built for people who play the game in real time.

Any news on the next updated release of RUb?

Any news on the next updated release of RUb?

I'm just waiting for Sergbuto to give me the go-ahead to use his reflection fix. Once I get that, the RUb 1.44 mod will be released.

:-) Finally deck gun reaload time adjustment made easy :)
Rub + commander + radiolog mod make me feel like a real commander :)

I have question - is it possible to add some small pictures of medals to generated personal file?

This html is hardcoded? Ability to use html templates would be nice (like - html file with 'holes' which sh3c fills with data) . Unfortunately I don't know much about html and don't know sh3 commander's source code so I don't know if it's easy to be done :-) Just some suggestions from me :)

Wisely or not, I installed this whilst in mid patrol. :hmm:

I have activated the realistic crew transfer facility.

Every time I go back to the patrol I am advised thta I have another member of crew transferred. :o

Will disable the realistic crew setting until the current patrol is over and see what happens then. :)

For info only.

I´ve started SH3 15 times and 11 times a crew member was transfered, killed in a bar fight or injured in an accident. In my opinion this result is acceptable. The only thing I don´t like is, as I already wrote, that the transfer windows doesn´t show what qualifications the crew member had. This makes it a bit more time consuming to make a correct replacement, but it´s not really tragic...

This did cross my mind - but I thought my time was better spent on implementing gameplay options than the fluffy bits. It may happen in a later version, after the key features have all been implemented. I have already started on the next (major) release, which has already cut 10mb off the full download size due to some refinement of the way date based variable menu text is inserted into SH3 (only the changed values are inserted, meaning no more full copies of *_menu.txt are required in SH3 Commander). There's some other nice new features coming that people have asked for (hopefully)...

It's not hard to do - I could have even went fancier with stylesheets...but, again, overkill when there are so many other enhancements that need to be added. I may compromise and change to XML in a later release. This will give users the ability to modify the templates to their liking, within some constraints (ie there still needs to be places for the data to insert!). Of course, there's nothing stopping users editing the current output in their favourite html editor. :D

Yeah, that will happen. SH3 Commander should only be used to load the game between patrols. If you're in mid-patrol you should use the regular SH3.exe to load the game. All the correct SH3 Commander files will still be there, but the crew transfer and realistic career length features won't kick in. Jaesen is looking for a foolproof way to allow players to load via SH3 Commander at any time.

Couple of questions: Now that Rub 1.44 is out, do I need to rollback SH3 Commander before installing the latest Rub (using mod installer), then reinstall Commander?

Also, someone above mentioned the radiolog mod. I presume this adds realistic news broadcasts etc at certain dates via gramaphone folder.... is this compatible with SH3 Commander's own historical broadcasts etc? Also, where can I find info and download site on this mod (UBoat.realsimulation.com ain't letting me access the general downloads page)...

Thanks for any help on above.

It's always a good idea to do a rollback in SH3 Commander before installing a new mod, but you shouldn't need to reinstall SH3 Commander. The rollback should remove any files that are in question. After installing the latest RUb mod, SH3 Commander should still work fine. If you need to upgrade SH3 Commander too, then a rollback should be sufficient for that too, although be sure to read the Help file, as some tweaking may need to be done if you're replacing older versions of SH3 Commander.

Radiolog contains messages that you get through your game's Enigma machine, so they appear as text messages from your radio officer. They are compatible with RUb and don't affect the gramophone broadcasts.

Also, where can I find info and download site on this mod (UBoat.realsimulation.com ain't letting me access the general downloads page)...

Go to www.beerymod.com. You'll find the latest RUb and SH3 Commander mods there.

I don't know the answer for the first question but radio log is not a graphone mod. It adds radio messages as new 'funkspruchen' (like these from BdU about convoys). In-game text radio messages.

There are 2 versions. I'm using "radiolog841(1.4ready).zip". There is also "radiologlite(1.4ready).zip" which is included in IUB AFAIR. It's available at u-boot.realsimulation.com in general mods section. Register there to have access to mods

Correct. When installing mods or enabling mods via JSGME (particularly large mods that change many files), you should perform a "Rollback" in SH3Cmdr first. That is all that is necessary - you do *not* need to uninstall or reinstall SH3Cmdr when enabling or disabling any new mods.

I find it's a good habit to always "resolve" SH3Cmdr. That means if you launch SH3 via SH3Cmdr, the next action you perform after you've finished your patrol and exited SH3 is either a Rollback or commencement/continuation of the next patrol.

This is my first post, but I have been lurking here for a number of years. I finally ran into a problem that forced me to register and make this post. I hope someone can help me.

Excuse my ignorance but I can't seem to install SH3 commander. My puter doesn't recognize the file, and I can't figure it out either (I have XP SP2). Can someone please enlighten me.....I would very much appreciate it. Thank You!

Probably you can't unzip it. Try searching for "WinRAR" or "7zip." Either of these programs will most likely fix your problems.

And Welcome. If my suggestion doesn't help, stick around and ask again. The folks here are most helpful.

Thanks for your help! I downloaded 7zip and viola! it worked. Now I'm having fun with the program. I REALLY like the RPG aspect that this adds. Thanks again! Porter
