Hey All. I've just started getting to the III Fat 1 Torpedos and the Type IV passive homing torpedos.
My question is:
What do you guys use each torpedo type for? Like the ladder torpedos?
I know the homing ones are made for taking out people on your tail... Just getting confusing for someone who's use to using the II and the III torpedos like javelins. :D

I find that the ladder-fish are perfect for engaging a convoy head-on or from behind, though the homing fish work well for the latter as well.
I dunno, it depends on your tactics. When I run across a convoy, I try and hunt the warships first, then the armed merchants (if I can figure out which ones are which) and then surface and deck-gun them all down. Homing torpedoes or well-placed "javelins" as you put it are perfect for this job. With the homing torpedoes, get in behind the convoy under cover of darkness and throw homing torpedoes at the escorts as they run search patterns away from the rest of the group. Not guaranteed kills, but pretty good chances usually. Warships make a lot of noise.
I've hit on a useful recent strategy - early war - which it to leave one forward tube empty.
The reason:
TII's (electric 3km range) are optimal for daylight convoy attacks, whereas TI's are optimal for night-time - and from further out.
You never know under what conditions you'll meet a convoy, and so by leaving the forward loadout as 2 x T2's and 1 x T1, you can load the 4th tube when it becomes apparant which of the two types best suit you projected attack. leaving with you at least 2 if not 3 suitable fish loaded.
Similarly, don't reload forward tubes (ie autoload off) until your high speed section as you re-overtake the convoy - where you will now be able to project a likely engaement time - and lighting conditions - and load all 4 accordingly!
Another useful side-effect of this is that you can fire your two T2's first, followed by the T1 (set to fast) and with a little luck they'll arrive near simultaeneously!
