View Full Version : Which U-boat was the most peaceful?

Okay, so far I've found one boat that I think was pretty harmless: U-267. It never sank any ships, never shot down an aircraft, and never lost a crewman in 7 patrols. Is there any other boat that had a more peaceful career? I.e. more patrols with no casualties on either side?

By the way, I'm not trying to poke fun at the less effective boats. Far from it. As a pacifist I applaud peaceful activities in wartime, even if such activities were probably not what the participants had in mind. Although maybe they failed in their mission, they succeeded in lessening the harmful effects of war.

less effective boats = cannon fodder for destroyers! Sneak in & sink 'em while the enemy is distracted!

Maybe a boat that submerged during sea trials for the first
time and never made it back up.....

I think by 'peaceful' he means stories that have no deaths involved :P ;)

Erm... I did say that. I wrote "no casualties on either side" in the very first paragraph of the first post. Plus I said that it should involve more patrols than 7. A boat sinking before its first patrol would kill lots of people and it wouldn't have done any patrols at all. It fails on both counts.
