What does it take to get this blasted gama,brightness/contrast settings on my monitor to look right in game.

I ran a monitor calibration program and set my brightness and contrast settings. The desktop looks great and all colors are sharp and vivid.

I go into the game and it looks like crap...all washed out looking and way to bright at night. And no matter what I do I cannot get it to look right.

It is either way to dark at night and I cant see nothing..or I get it to what I feel should be right hen I get these splotchy spots in the sky that look terrible.I am trying to set it for Beerys water mod 1.44 with his new sky colors for night.

I don't use calibration programs. I usualy set contrast to 100% and brightness between 30 and 45% (depending on monitor, 35-40 on CRT and 45 on LCD). Temperature of the white usualy set to maximum 9300 or 9500 degrees (on LCD less). Sometimes I set more blue and less red color (on CRT).

Hello,
Go to you video card settings and look for a gamma setting for 3d mode. Change the gamma to ~1.5 (i use 1.35, ati X800XL)

This is my gamma settings area for my card..

In the Apply color changes to section I have choices of

Desktop
Overlay
All

My monitor itself setings are Contrast 100 Brightness 32

I tried the 1.5...I can get it to 1.47 but then it is simply way to bright

i see...
looks like there is no seperate setting for 3d mode.
Did you try the overlay gamma, maybe 3d is also controlled with that.

When i change 3d gamma with my card it has no effect to the desktop brightness, but i´m ati user.

Any nvidia user here who could help out and tell us how to change gamma only for 3d enviroment)

i´ve just read there is no setting in the nvidia driver to control 3d gamma. :(
you´ll have to use an external tool like atuner.
You can dl it here:

One more reason to possibly go with an ATI card next. :D

Hey, it´s just a driver issue... ;)

But i can tell you i´m very happy with my ati...
It´s made by sapphire.

Did you tried that atuner tool? Maybe powerstrip and other tools have a similar setting.

I just tried the Atuner...that was the key.

I was able to get the settings right without efetng my desktop settings..and it looks perfect now.

Thanks

This is bothering me too, but my problem it's so dark at night I can't see ANYTHING on my new Samsung 930B LCD flat panel.

On my old Dell 19" Triniton, I could see enough at night to be able to identify the ships, but now they're just a black blob against even darker black.

I tried changing the 3D gamma on my radeon 9800xt but it has absolutely NO effect in SH3. Just to be sure it was working right I tried it in Call Of Duty and it worked perfect in that game.

Any ideas how to get the 3D gamma on my card to work in SH3?

This maybe a LCD issue cos I have experienced the same thing myself. The game looks much better on my CRT Triniton monitor than on my LCD.

jeez I hate to hear that! But I was afraid of that... The monitor settings don't seem to help much, and the card settings don't work in 3D mode with this game :( And I bought the LCD for this game...

But the game DOES look freakin' fantastic on the LCD during daylight attacks :) Guess I'll just have to give up night attacks until I find a solution...

Is the "syncronised" setting turned on in your game, Dirty Harry?
If not it won´t work.

It was off... I turned it on and now the 3d gamma is working! I owe you one man  Many thanks!

I guess that setting is the same as vsync?
