is it useful to fire the deck gun at a point different from waterline? is it implemented the possibility to slow down ships hitting, i.e., fuel storages or engines compartments or rudder section? what is the use of hitting the stern or the bow of ships?
is it "historical" to patrol an area for 24 hours like it happens in the game? in case, how did commanders act once the assigned time had elapsed? did they wait a radio call for a target or perform their own target searches with some kind of logic?

I have not noticed targeting the water line to be any more effective. But, I try and target central areas where torpedoes have more effect but am doing this by deduction and not sure it matters.
After I patrol my area I head for the convoy lanes. In real life Kaleuns would be vectored to areas where tarffic was reported and in such absence, I act logically regarding historic behaviour, as I see it.. This depends on where my patrol area was. If I was in CF, I would patrol off Gibralter. If I was patroling west of Brest, I would patrol through the SW of England and maybe head up North West of Ireland. If I was patroling The North Atlantic I would cover the western approaches off Northern Ireland. I stay with a VIIC so do not do the far patrols (VIIC allows for a completed patrol in one evening)
Before SH3 was released they asked the community regarding the campaign and were told by the majority a dynamic campaign was preferred. They delayed the release to give us this. With some faults, it is still much better than a scripted camapign, always the same etc. IMO

thanks....
and what about Northern Sea routes?
are there historical maps of these "convoy lanes"?

I asume you mean the Arctic convoys (There are no North Sea convoys). I have never attacked those but if I did I would simply plant my boat in the path on the paper map we got with the game and wait.
