SH3 Commander single mission Q

Much enjoy SH3 Commander but have a question:

I tried to set up for a single mission.

The instructions state:

"By selecting "Set up for a single mission" you can prepare Silent Hunter III in anticipation of undertaking an individual mission. .... When finished, click on the 'Launch SH3!' button and SH3 Commander will load up the necessary files and Silent Hunter III will automatically start."

Ok, I did that and Sh3 started.... now what? I went to Single Missions Menu but didn't see any mission generated there. What do I do to get into the single mission? I'm I missing something in the instructions? What I'm I doing wrong?

You're not doing anything wrong. But intuitively you're expecting SH3 Commander to set you up completely. Unfortunately the game won't allow that. All SH3 Commander does is load files into the game so that the date, flotilla, and U-boat type are accurately simulated in the game (for example by loading the correct paint schemes for the date in question, and the correct crush depth values for the U-boat you selected). As it says in SH3 Commander (underneath where you make your date, flotilla and U-boat selections) "Please remember to select the same year and U-boat type when starting your mission in SH3". Choose any mission, then select the year and U-boat type that you chose in SH3 Commander and you'll be all set up with the correct files for the flotilla, date and boat that you want to use.
