I know it sounds like a silly question, but where can you find the picturesque icebergs for a good background to a screenshot? Have seen a few in screenshots on this forum so they must be about somewhere. I've been up North, way past Greenland and Iceland as far as you can go with no luck. Do you have to head down South (could be difficult with a mark VII!)?
Gary
Its hard to find them, I think that there are only 12 of them at the entire planet (in SH3), and you have to be very lucky to find one, especialy because of TC we are using.

custom missions i made myself. i haven't encountered them in normal game. They actually made like units and can move up to 5knots in whatever direction, so technically they can ram into you if you are on course. But they are not anywhere as they should be.

Gone north .... and didn't so much as fall of the edge as I hit it! Tooling along on 'map' at time compression and bang, U-802 destroyed with all hands - try again! Went up 'orth again slowly and just come across a big dark grey mass stretching all across the horizon - cheats! Back to the drawing board! :damn:

?? Only 12?? For crying out loud.. Can we mod this so when sailing high North in winter you will find sailing there VERY hazardous by all the icebergs floating around, and perhaps even some icebergs near Greenland.
*Allready dreams about a suicidal cat 'n mouse chase with a DD in the mids of icebergs *
Again..only 12? how about 1200..

Fire up the Campaign.RND in the editor and stick them in. No different from adding a ship.

Hey I have just found one. It was about 350 km East from Iceland (AE5694), at 11 Sept. 1940. Maybe we should evidence when and where icebergs was found.
Here are a bunch of screens:

That is incorrect :nope: There are seven (7) different types. :yep:
Granted, they are not often sighted in game but (in GWX for sure) they are there and they do spawn :arrgh!:
Have a look on this thread

I've found them more frequently than I expected on missions along the Murmansk convoy route north of Norway. Typically when I'm at periscope depth listening on sonar I'm tipped off by the report of a merchant that's dead in the water. These are icebergs. I'd say at least once (sometimes 2-3 times) on each mission along this route I come across an iceberg.

Hey, what happens when you go too far north? I haven't tried that yet. Do you run into the perminate polar ice pack?

oooooooooo.........
Well, the ice pack would look a bit like that.
Finding icebergs and dolphins are on my list of things to do.......but I keep finding convoys to chase! :D
Then again, running around and sight seeing.......I figure that BdU would get a bit upset with me! :hmm:

Just occured to me:
I'll more than likely find and Iceberg when I'm not looking for it! Just like I did my dolphins last night!
Of course cruising down around in the Med is more than likely not helping me find any bergs! :sunny:
Here's hoping the next version of GWX will have playable ice bergs!

Yupp iv been there too.
only once in campaign iv seen a berg.
I`ve encountered several icebergs in north-mid-Atlantic, like 1000 nm from Greenland and there were few near Spitsbergen - I`ve found few patrol vessels around the place, was ridiculous...but interesting, in certain way.
Besides, there`s interesting dependency you know. If I`m looking for merchants, I find icebergs. When I`m looking for icebergs I don`t find any but keep spotting the merchants :hmm:

XXi its the Brits crazy idea to fool Icebergs as merchants becuase iceebergs can take the torps and not sink which they deadly if you get too close.
Damn it !
It looks you`re right  These Brits, the tricky ones !

Churchill wanted an iceberg carrier.
Churchill wanted an iceberg carrier.
Well I know of Habakuk project. Interesting one and not that stupid - it would be very hard to put down such ice carrier. AFAIR it has not been made because before the production really started there it was already 1943 and the situation was beeing slowly put under control, besides the costs were enormous.

Churchill wanted an iceberg carrier.
Hey, pykrete is amazing stuff - even a relatively thin block can stop a 7.62mm rifle round at very close range, and it melts very slowly. And the proposed pykrete carriers were more like massive floating islands, up to 2000ft in length.
There is a plaque on the shores of Patricia Lake (Jasper, Alberta) where the only prototype structure was built (and then abandoned in late 1943 - it was argued there was little use for such massive floating airfields by that time, and the money would be better spent on other projects).
From Wikipedia;
At the Quebec Conference (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quebec_Conference) of 1943 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1943) Mountbatten brought a block of Pykrete along to demonstrate its potential to the bevy of admirals and generals who had come along with Winston Churchill (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winston_Churchill) and Franklin D. Roosevelt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franklin_Delano_Roosevelt). Mountbatten entered the project meeting with two blocks and placed them on the ground. One was a normal ice block and the other was Pykrete. He then drew his service pistol (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Service_pistol) and shot at the first block. It shattered and splintered. Next, he fired at the Pykrete to give an idea of the resistance of that kind of ice to projectiles. The bullet ricochetted off the block, grazing the trouser leg of Admiral Ernest King (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ernest_King) and ending up in the wall. The Admiral was impressed by Mountbatten's unorthodox demonstration
Whereas the rest of the room (I guess here), were less impressed with Mountbattens intellectual prowess:D
