Hello everyone! I just wanted to introduce myself as I have just discovered this forum and I have only been playing SHIII for a short period of time. I can already see why this is such a helpful and active community.

Anyway, I am very impressed with the amount of quality mods that are available for this game and I'm currently in the process of deciding which ones will make my gameplaying experience better in these early stages.

Glad to be here and I look forward to enjoying this game.

Welcome, herr kaleun!

Before you start modding be sure to make a complete backup of the data folder in the main SH3 directory. Also, it wouldn't hurt to make a backup of the SH3 folder in My Documents as well. Once you do that you can mod worry free. Good hunting!

Welcome!

As always, I'd recommend playing the game unmodded for a while until you decide which mods would suit you. I've been playing (without mods) pretty much since the game came out, and I'm still not sure which mods I want. When I'm ready, I'll start a new career and mod the thing to blazes.

Thank you both for the suggestions. I will certainly keep a backup of my existing cfg files.

Also, I believe I will initially play the game without any mods that affect the gameplay, as Floater suggested. I'm thinking I will just add a few "visual" mods like the better cloud textures and Beery's night sky mod (these are compatible, no?) What strictly visual mods do most people recommend?

There are a lot..

If you're prepared to wait a few days, I'm prepping an "Improved U-Boat" mod that will combine all the best mods, guaranteed to work together, etc.

Before you start modding be sure to make a complete backup of the data folder in the main SH3 directory.
Or download and use the JoneSoft Generic Mod Enabler utility (JSGME) to automate the install of mods and the backup of SH3 files replaced by those mods.

Why work hard!!! :smug:
