Is there an edit to a .cfg file somewhere that will enable sound at a higher time compression than 1x? If i'm at 2 or 4x i don't get the "depth charges in water" warning and it makes it harder to maneuver, but i don't have 3 hours to spend at every dd encounter either.

You will have to experiment with this, as it's been a long time since I messed with these settings and I'm not sure if this will work, but I think that the number in the "SoundEffects" line below is the level of TC at which the sound effects will cut out, in which case maybe changing it from 2 to maybe 4 or 8 would allow the sound effects to still play at 2x or 4x TC (I never experimented with increasing that number, but when I reduced it to "1" as a test way back I lost all sounds completely):
In the file: My Documents\SH3\data\cfg\main.cfg
[TIME COMPRESSION]
TimeStop=0
RealTime=1
LandProximity=1
CriticalDamage=1
CrewEfficiency=1
AirEnemyDetected=1
SoundEffects=2
CharacterAnim=4
EnemyDetected=1
RadioReport=8
Particles=8
PrayState=8
HunterState=32
3DRender=32
Maximum=1024
Good luck, and good hunting!
