Hi,

Just a quickie - magnetic triggers are mainly used when the torp is expected to go under the ship`s keel for max damage. Also they have the advantage of ability to explode at angles different than approx. 90 deg. What happens if the torp with magnetic trigger is set for depth less than ship`s draft and hits the hull ? Does the magnetic behave like Impact then - i.e. the torp is detonated based on impact or magnetic impulse (it gest close the ship anyway so the magnetic field should intesify) ? If it behaves like Impact, then hitting at steep angle, it may bounce off, right ?

Is it less likely to bounce off at steep angle than Impact torp ?

Would be grateful for clarification

I believe It is still meant to explode on impact, but I've had very few Mag torps explode on contact even at a good angle :(

I use Imp torps when I'm at 90* ( +/- 15*), and Mag's at any other time.

and Mag's at any other time.

and only if the weather is fairly good. Rough seas and mags don't seem to mix well :-(

I agree, I have lost kills from mags going off too soon.

I set them to 2m below keel in 15m/s storms and have great success. I've found that they explode to early more if you're to the far north or south of the map rather than in storms.
(but like I said 'seems' I haven't written a tally or anything, I must just be lucky with them, I normally fire within 1-2km in bad weather)

<edit> I would definately rather a Imp torp though if I can get the angle.

I very RARELY use magnetic, I have better luck with Impact setting

To answer the original question, the magnetic also functions as an impact if necessary.

IFL they caused more damage. I haven't seen for myself whether this is modeled in the game. Perhaps our modders can speak to that.
