View Full Version : Is there a way to make AntiAliasing work with bloom?

I have a geforce 6800 and I must say, after the amount of time that this game has been out on the market, its a shame they have not fixed this problem yet.
Why is it important? Its almost impossible to see the top of the masts (measuring distance) when you dont have AA. It constantly dissapears. And yeah I would like bloom too.
Has anyone found a workaround to this problem?

Get an ATI card!

Seriously, I had AA on my GF 5950 Ultra by setting up a game profile from the nView manager... I have to do something similar (but much easier) with my X850. That is the only way I know how to get AA and AF in SH3. About bloom... I've heard about it, and I think you can change it by hitting Shift+Page Up or Down; check the wiki to be sure though.

Thanks for the response. I know about turning bloom on and off using shift PU PD. But when I turn bloom on , AA turns off.

Get an ATI card!

didn´t worked for me. Ati X800XL here.
If i fire up bloom AA is instantly off :(

Wow i used that bloom function for the first time, very nice effect...
didn´t know it has several levels of bluriness you can switch between... :o
I want this feature now! :-j Just look into the sun and turn it on!
Unfortunately i want AA too, so a solution would be great.

Anyone did a test with anisotropic filtering disabled (and AA on)? Any difference?

By "fire up bloom" do you mean by using the key combo (shift+pgup or whatever) that you use with the nVidia cards? If so, why would you ever do that with an ATI card? I just replaced my nVidia 6800 with an X800XL, and with AA (and AF) on I get a big glare/bloom effect from the sun without using the key combo. It's almost too big a bloom/glare effect as it is - no way I'd want to make it even bigger using the key combo.

Do you really get no glare/bloom effect with your ATI card without using the key combo that turns off the AA?

That is what I meant by getting an ATI card. I don't even have to bother with bloom, even with my X800 XL, because the image quality with 4X AA and 16X AF is so good. My brother's GF 6800 GT can't match the X800 for image quality nor fps when running SH3 in that mode. With my X850 PT, it's just gorgeous... especially with the visual mods out there.

Edit: Forgot to mention; that bloom effect is a type of software AA, so it'll mess up hardware AA if they ran together. That is probably the main reason the game forces the hardware AA off when the bloom is turned on.

Yeah I know, and I was agreeing with you about my experience with my X800XL - BUT in my post I was asking Gammel, who had replied to your post and said that getting an ATI card (an X800XL like mine) had not worked for him/her for some reason - this was the first I'd seen of anyone with an ATI card having an issue/problem with the bloom vs AA thing and I was curious about what Gammel was really experiencing with his/her ATI card.
