Ive just discovered that in all the reinstalls ive done including the first install of this game, when updating with the patches i was installing the wrong version patch all the time. I would get errors stating basic.cfg wrong version which i thought was a bug in the patch so i would delete the basic.cfg and carry on with the US version update it would replace the basic.cfg with its own. Not knowing at the time i was updating the wrong version! It should of been the UK EMEA whateva its called updates. no wonder i use to get a lot of CTD! Anways i have now reinstall SH3 and updated the game with the uk version which gave me no errors when updating. But now i can't disabled the Auto targetting! even when i go into the options and theres the option to check it to disable, it still shows autoupdating in the game, ive used the mod that can disable it as well but the game still shows it.

When i updated this game with the wrong patches i never got auto targetting? It just wasn't an option. :) it somehow never installed it. Now though its there to haunt me! Its the worse thing in the game! i mos well just have damn god mode. How can i disable it! Any file i can configure
Thanks

Switch "autotarget" off but leave "WO assistance" on so you can have the backup, in the realism settings.

Since you've installed the game more than once, you might have an old version of "GameplaySettings.cfg" on your system. (That is the file that contains your Realism settings.) It's worth a try, at least.

There are two GameplaySettings.cfg files for SHIII: one is in the install directory (...\SilentHunterIII\data\cfg ) and the other is in your My Documents folder (...\My Documents\SH3\data\cfg ).

Open the My Documents... file (using any word processor file (such as WordPad or Notepad)) and make sure that the line says "ManualTargetingSystem=true"

Both files also have a line at the very bottom that says: "AlwaysAutotargeting=0,0,0,0,0;for warships...". I'm not sure what this line does exactly, but if yours reads differently in either file, I think you ought to change it to have all zeroes.

Thanks!

Your expertise solved it, the 0,0,0,0,0, were all 1,1,1,1,1, etc., so i canged them back to 0. i know that 0 and 1 in computer terms means in english yes/no or on/off just like in the Battlefield 2 game in a certain file if you change all the zeros to one it unlocks all weapons etc.,

Aparently it never overwrite my old settings like you said

Thanks guys, it good to see no damn yellow/red triangle
