I usually encounter enemy aircraft while in the middle (litterally) of the Atlantic. How do they get there? They cannot possibly have so much fuel.

If there was supposed to be a task force with a carrier i sould have been told so by radio message (at least in some missions)

Maybe they came from an island airfield.

What kind of aircraft were they?

How about a floating bird farm? aka Haze Grey and Underway chucks of steel known as a Carrier and you might not get a message from the Intel guys (they might not know about it). But yes the type of Aircraft would tell, No P-38s would launch from a CV but a TBD, Swordfish and even the Hawker Sea Hurricane(until 43) could be launched. I dont know if the Devs modeled the "Sea" Hurricane to be CV or Ship launched?

i was plagued by swordfish torp planes the other day in the southerly regions of BE. seems they were a little far away from merry ole england to be harrassing me.

in a few, i found an illustrious fleet carrier passing the time in BE38. it had swordfish torp planes on it's deck. was it waiting for its marauders to return; hence my previous encounter?

logical me thinks.

The printed map that comes in the box shows the Allied aircraft coverage. Using this you should be able to make out where the aircraft are coming from.

Euripides,

At the moment I'm using RUb1.43,SH3 Commander,World 4 and a couple of others.

I've had a similar experience,but in BE39.The beggars just would'nt stop coming.
The cause for this could be a Mod or a combination of Mod's,that your using.

These circles are on the assumption that the pilot wants to return to base. Absolute range is double the circle, so it could be the pilot had no desire to go back to base or was on route to land somewhere else even!!

Or got lost he he :P

Just feel like pointing out: The aircraft on a carrier are built in its model. They are no indication of air traffic. :know:

I've read somewhere that if you torp a carriers and it capsizes, you will see the planes slide of the deck.

Has anyone seen that happen?

And another Q, I one encountered a Carrier TF and got atacked by swordfish planes, do they just 'spawn' in mid air or something?

Keep in mind the Sunderland (after Mark III) had a range of over 3000 miles, and the Wellington of at least 2200 miles. They flew not just out of GB, but also Canada, Greenland, IceLand, the Azores. GB also got a bunch of lend-lease B17's which they used for Atlantic Patrols.

The Atlantic "gap" was something the Allies rushed to plug up - with long range patrol aircraft (Sunderlands, PBY's, Wellingtons, and so forth) and by building airstrips on any available Island.

So, depending on where you are in the war - yes, aircraft can hit you, and did. Sunderlands, PBY's, etc ranged thousands of miles out from their bases. Escort carriers helped to plug the air-gap, but it was mainly long range, land based planes that closed the mid-Atlantic.

Google for "Battle of the ATlantic" and "Air Gap" - there's lots of info out there.
