This is my second campaign and it's January 1940 now. After going so long in the last campaign, I forget how nice it was to have the deck gun handy to take out a few ships (or finish them off) to save on torpedoes.
Anyway, I was on my way to the straits to check out the BB convoy activity when I ran head-on into a nice big merchant convoy with calm seas. It was just about sunset so by the time the ships came into range, I had almost dark conditions to aid my attack. I took out a T2, Passenger Liner, and a T3 in that order with keel shots (the T2 went dead in the water and later needed some assistance with the deck gun). I ignored the Troop Transport during my initial attack and got a nasty surprise when I surfaced and it started firing on me from long range. Fortunately, I was able to dive before taking any damage.
Finished, I headed southeast, reloading torpedoes, grabbing external stores, and giving the crew a rest. This took about an hour or so. Next, I submerged to listen with the hydrophones and find myself right in the path of what I was originally looking for...BB's! I'm right in the path of a Nelson and a Revenge. But it was getting late, so I'll be coming back to this attack after work tonight.
I have to tell everyone, my new GeForce 7800 GTX makes the game look wonderful...especially after calibrating the monitor colors and brightness. The sea has a nice green glow at night and the ships look like ghosts gliding across the surface.
