Destroyer capsizing in heavy seas?

Just had a wierd thing happen in vanilla 1.4b. I was west of Britian in heavy seas (15 mph winds) when a Hunty Destroyer passed about 2000 m north of me. I went to PD to avoid him, when all of the sudden a sunk ship marker appears on the nav map right where he should be. Checked the hydrophone and periscope, no sign of him! Could he have capsized due to the waves? I'm almost back to port, I'll see if I get credit for him! No "enemy sunk" message though :(

edit: Nope, didn't get credit for him. Oh well, it was still a 13,000 ton patrol!

The Hunt class is actually a DE, much lighter than a real DD.
So he may be sunk from the storm. He was probably very
inexperienced too....

I've noticed that the Flower Corvettes founder by the stern in 15 m/s weather a lot... although the Coastal and Small merchants don't founder anymore with 1.4b...

Looks funny when a Flower founders... bow is 45 deg in the air and it's still chugging along @ 5 kts or so.... I sank one cripplin' along behind a convoy just to put it out of it's misery.... put a TII into the Aft deckhouse..

I have experienced this, too. Though with the latest patch and some mods I think it goes away.

What also used to happen a lot in later years (1943-45) was that destroyers would be destroyed by their own hedgehogs when using time compression. :o

I stopped using TC while under destroyer attack so this wouldn't happen anymore, in order to have a realistic experience.

That's too bad about the Flowers. In real life the tubby little things not only did better in heavy seas than "real" destroyers, they were also drier and more comfortable in those conditions. They would ride up and down over the waves, where bigger escorts would plow through them.

Is it possible they're taking damage from the waves? I know this is an issue for MTB's in heavy seas - they tend to spontaneously combust.
