How do you get the IXB ship (1939)?

When I look at the timeline it shows that in 1940 there are 5 different subs available. The 2A, 2D, 7B, 7C and 9B. I seem to have access to everything but the 9B. How do I get it? Ive run 7 patrols so far and just now can purchase the 7C. Do I have to save up money for the 9B to show up on the menu? I don't want to spend it on the 7C if I can jus wait another patrol or two and get the bigger and better sub. Anybody have any info? Im part of the first fotilla by the way. Do I have to switch to the 7th to get it? I know the 7th starts off with a 7B sub right from the start because many of their missions is in the atlantic.

You get the IXB with the 2nd Flotilla out of Lorient.

I stared with the VIIB. I can see no reason at all to upgrade to any other VII class.

Ill think ill save up for the IXD.

First time i played i upgraded to every better sub i could afford almost. What a waste of money.

Not this time. So far, ive never actually used or even SEEN a XXI sub.

Gives me incentive to keep playing.

I started my current career in 1939 in a VIIB with the 7th Flotilla and was transferred to St. Nazaire at the end of my 6th Patrol on Sept 6, 1940. Lorient was open then, but I was caught up in the "Xfer'd to St. Nazaire but it isn't on the map" bug, and couldn't transfer to Lorient & 2nd Flotilla to upgrade to a IXB until after my 7th patrol. Unless you start your career in 1940 with the 2nd, you have to xfer there from either the 1st or 7th flotillas after you are ordered to return to either Brest or Lorient in Aug/Sept 1940....

Get the Flotilla Mod. Lets you start with the 2nd in wilhemshaven(sp) 3 Sept 1939. I think the latest is version 1.44. Available at beery's site and others. There are a couple of very cool new features.

IXB is an option immediately but, unless you edit renown, 4 or 5 patrols away. Assuming you had 1500 from the academy as initial stake. Cost is 9000 and drops to 7500 renown about jan '40 IIRC.

Unless you want the IXB for long distance patrols, i wouldn't bother with this boat, shes to slow to dive and to large therefore more of an easy target. I would wait for the IXD2. But thats my opinion anyway. I prefer the VIIC, shes a good boat, faster diving time and a sturdy runner when under water, she turns quick this is good when evading the depth charges, and shes a smaller target compared to the larger IX boats

Many times with the IX boats i have ordered crash dive when planes are sighted only to be hit just when submerging. The VIIC always gets away..... just
