i have installed it and this window comes up with ticks and crosses i got 2 crosses in two boxes gets to the loading page and it dumps any ideas ?

What was the boxes that were crossed? It could be that your machine isn't powerful enough to run SHIII, I had a couple of X's in mine, and I managed to run the game...but with tie-die coloured crew and a minus frame rate.

Sorry man - you gave to pick up a book and learn a little about computers in order to help yourself.

It's like you asking why your car stopped running and I ask you to check your battery connection and you say "I dont know about that, I'm not a car buff".

You need to learn some basics. Otherwise you have to stick with console gaming rigs where you dont have to worry about drivers and hardware specs.

Go to the Start menu, and choose "Run".
In the field, enter "dxdiag.exe" and press enter. Should bring up a bunch load of information.

To find out what your soundcard its, go to:

START>CONTROL PANNEL>SOUND, SPEECH AND AUDIO DEVICES>SOUNDS AND AUDIO DEVICES.

Your card should be listed at the top, right above 'Device Volume'


To find out what your video card is:

Right click on your desktop. Then go to PROPERTIES and click on the tab that says SETTINGS. Your card will be located in a drag-down bar right below the monitor size icon.

You will likely have to supply your RAM as well. Go to your desktop and right click on My Computer, selecting properties. The RAM information will appear near the bottom.

Just an FYI from a person who's had some training in archival and restoration techniques: there is no such thing as non-abrasive tissue paper. The wood pulp used in common tissue paper is very abrasive on a microscopic level. I'm not sure about how damaging such scratches actually are on a DVD/CD, or if such scratches are damaging at all - I think it takes quite a lot of diffraction to cause skipping. But to avoid scratches altogether it's best to use 100% cotton with no impurities (cotton wool balls are good, but they must be 100% cotton).

I just thought it might be good to share the small amount of knowledge I have on this issue, since we gamers use these CDs/DVDs a lot.

What kind of "dumping" is this? Walk us through the process of being denied the pleasures of this game with a bit more detail.

Very true- the worst thing to use on ANY optical item (Even your eyeglasses) is Paper of ANY sort.

Err, beg to differ...There is a thing called 'Lens Paper', which is actually used for polishing microscope lenses. I got a stack of those from a former girlfriend, who worked in laboratory.

That said, I wouldn't know where to get any now :-?

Lens Paper is mostly made from cotton or linen fibers, sometimes wood pulp. Ask at your local optics store or Optician, normally they can provide you with that. We always had that stuff in stock for our customers, 50 sheets cost roughly $1.

However, we used to clean our optical equipment with those 100% cotton rags, cheaper in the long run. :D

He said that his computer shows that he has 992 MB of RAM. This indicates that he most likely has an 'onboard' :roll: video card, which allocates and uses system ram for it's video ram.

1024 MB minus 992 MB = 32 MB...... 32 MB of Video RAM.

Video Card Requirement for SHIII: DX9 Compliant with at least 64 MB of Video RAM.


Like others have guessed, I too am going to guess that his video card is incompatible.

The Celeron is a bit of a tip off as well. Not too many people use Celerons for gaming, so they tend to have the on board video......
