When I was a kid my family visited the waterfront in Cleveland. I seem to recall there was a US Sub circa WWII on the waterfront. Anyone from Cleveland here? ANyone know the boat I mean?

Thanks a bunch. I remember touring that boat during the late 70s and so I wanted to figure out the name

USS Cod...

I've toured it and the U-505 (both before and after restoration). Though I have more interest in German subs, the Cod is a much better tour (its self guided for one)... totally original, no doorways cut in or anything. You climb on and through all the same ladders and doors the crew did originally. Awesome boat. Anyone should visit it given the opportunity.

I've not seen U-505. I've wanted to see it. Been to Chicago a number of times. Butusually have a group with me. Dad trained at Great Lakes, so we were up in Chi-town a lot. Most people I go with are going for their first time and I usually have only a few hours to show sites. Never made it to the Museum. Maybe next time. (re: better get to or someone gets hurt)

Yeah I am only about 25 minutes from Cleveland and the Cod is probably one of the best WW2 sub displays you are going to see. I remember going with my grandfather to see it and crawling around in it when I was a little kid. It is preserved so well that it is almost like you are going back in time to when the boat was first commissioned. They really do a good job maintaining the sub and keeping it original. They can even load torpedos in the sub as it was done in WW2 because the boat was never really modified for display purposes.
