View Full Version : Type II questions
I want to play a career using one of the type II's, so I'm wondering if I should use a IIa or IId.
I figure the IIa should give me nice short patrols because it has much less fuel then the IId, but the IId will proberly have much better upgrades later.
Any suggestions or tips?
Also I've noticed that I get sent on obscenely long patrols - From Kiel to west of Lorient in a IIA :-?
I guess no one has any love for the type IIs ;)
I've got my new boat, U-141 a IID, we sank a Tribal DD, a Large Cargo and slightly damaged a C2 on our first patrol in 1940 :)
I've got to stop attacking those tincans but. In my last career in a VIIC I survived until late '42 with 24 warships sunk and 28 merchants until the DDs finaly got the best of me.

Definitely IID - it can dive deeper and has better underwater speed & range. Guess it will be difficult to survive the war though :)

The Type II boats can be fun. You really have to make each torpedo count.
I agree with the rest, the D was the best thing to happen to the Type II. :yep:
Start a career with the 1st Flotilla at the beginning of the war and you'll get a Type II A to start with; upgrade to the Type II D when you have enough renown. Then you will really appreciate the extended range of the D.
ex type IIa user here.
played 6 patrols in that small boat.
The last patrol in that boat BDU did send me to a grin SW of ireland. Starting Base was Wilhelmshaven :o
It was his revenge for transfering to that flotilla just before. I did the change with the type IX in mind.
i had to go to the channel 1 time on that patrol. Backway i made it the long way around england. Guess it was a journey of ~6000 km altogether. My crew was quite ********d up as we finally arrived back in Wilhelmshaven. :)
I have good memories of the type II but finally i´m happy to be the commander of a type IXb (U64)
