Okay, it's Dec. 8, 1944. I'm in a type IXB (U-107), out of Bergen (since Lorient was out after our last patrol). We've spent a week dodging planes (seas too rough to use the flak guns - we have 2xtwin 20mm and 1xquad 20mm), using the snorkle mostly to recharge and refresh.

Up off north of Scapa, heading for grid BE33, when we come across a task force (my first in this campaign - 37th patrol). They are going 25knots, so we are able to close easily, without detection.

There, in line-ahead, are 3 battleships. But from the scope, they all look like Nelson-class?? I go to the external camera, and fly around them looking in detail (it's about an hour past dawn), and sure enough, they are all identical. All with the classic Nelson-class superstructure, funnels, 3x3 turrents - identical!

Now, correct me if I'm wrong (although I know I'm not) there were only two of these ships built - Nelson and Rodney. But, I swear, I have 3 of these 1600yds in front of me right now (sorry, cannot post screen shots, as I have nowhere to host them).

What's up? Anyone seen this?

Sounds like a typical enough SH3 oversight. ;)

You might try RuB to see if it does anything, as it changes a lot of the convoys and task forces.

ya, thats something I've just grown used to. I think I've sunk 5 nelsons over the course of my current campaign..... they just keep comming back!

Holy Bat guano, Batman. Regardless of the historical inaccuracies, we've attacked. Sunk 2 Nelson class (2x36,000 ton credit) - one with 3 hits, one with a single hit (??? - bow, type V, but still???, a single hit??). The 3rd is steaming away at high speed. Would love to sink it too, but we're headed for 130m, changing course, dropping decoys, silent running, and getting our butt pinged like crazy by the escorts.

Remains to be seen whether U-107 survives to get the credit. I hope so, this is my longest career to date, and I would just like to finish out the war alive.

Whaaa? This is BIZARRE. The 3rd Nelson has stopped, nearly above us??? - and she appears to be firing charges from her flanks??? A DD just sank, for no reason (seas are calm) - we're at 90m and diving?? Suddenly a cruiser burst into flames - huh??

Something with my game/campaign seems really, suddenly FUBAR'd. Our radar and radio antennae are destroyed, but no hull damage yet (charges going off all over the place, but, AFAIK tell, none near us??)??

Never seen anything like this in this sim? This is just surreal.

It could be possible that one of the allied ships actually hit another one on accident and theve started firing at each other. That still doesnt explain why the other Nelson would stop dead, is its engine still making noise? Are the props intact?

Well, not sure what's going on. The cruiser that burst into flames was 2 ships back (from the remaining Nelson) in line, and it sank - so apparent reason for that. The destroyer - maybe it was sunk by that 3rd Nelson's secondary guns??

We sailed on, at 120m, silent running. Depth charges going off like mad, but all we seemed to take was deck damage (radio and radar antennaes destroyed). The Nelson finally got underway again, and the whole task force seemed to move off to the north.

Then, 30 minutes after no charges going off within 1000's of yards of us, my damage meter suddenly showed 70% hull damage?? We've been way beyond any of the escorts for a long while, but suddenly the hull goes to heck, we have flooding - this is weird.

We managed to surface, the task force well behind us, and limped back to Bergen. Recorded credit does show two Nelson's sunk.

We're sailing again (January 1945) from Bergen - I want to finish this campaign alive (would be my first surviving the entire war). But, I have that BB task force attack saved, so my may re-run it once this campaign ends (endof war, or us sunk, we'll see).

Very bizarre encounter though - I have no idea what went on there.
