I may be wrong, but I think I have read a few messages/tutorials that say when your Sound operator detects a sound contact with the hydrophones, you get a black line on your map indicating bearing and approximate distance.
I don't seem to get that map graphic at all. Does it show on the Nav map? TDC map? Am I totally off base?
I'm commanding a VIIB with Hydrohpone upgrade. Realism set to no map updates.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Here's what they look like. Black lines indicate a merchant ship, red lines are warships. Supposedly, the hydrophone operator can tell the difference just by their propeller noise.
So many ships, so few torpedoes:

You can hear this difference for yourself. Since warships generally steam faster than merchants, their engines screws often sound like they are working harder -- higher pitch and more revolutions. Try it, and hear the difference!
