View Full Version : Ok so now I can sink C2s in one shot, how about C3s?

I have finally figured out a way to reliably destroy C2s by firing an impact torp at 2.5 meters right under the smokestack, which always cracks the boat in half or completely blows out it's engines. Now it's C3s which are giving me the most trouble. These things are insanely strong, I can fire torpedo after torpedo at these monsters and they might sink a little but still manage to zizag away.
Any ideas?

For me, if I aim in the same spot as I do C2s, I can usually take them out in one hit. Also, have you tried going for a keel shot (setting depth 1m under the keel)?

THe problem I often have is setting the torpedo too low. It hits near the keel but richochets off because the bottom of the rounds off there and it doesn't get a good perpendicular hit.
Your thoughts?

I set depth to 1.8-2m under keel, not one. In rough weather, the ships bounce a bit, so it might not work.
Keel shots on big freighters is my favourite, not to mention the oilers. They blow up rather nicely.

You set the torpedo below the keel?
How does it explode if it doesn't hit the kill since it's low?
I think he means when you set it to magnetic.
I almost never set magnetic in a storm.

In my experience the magnetic thing never works..

Magnetic are great on good weather...
Just set them 2 meters deeper than target keel and they will destroy or cripple it!! In addition it won't bounce off on target with a low angle on bow!
In bad weather I usually use magnetic for deep target (C3, T3 etc...) at keel depth, while I use impact for shallow ships, since if set too near to the big waves magnetic will explodes before reaching the target.

I recently sunk 2 C3's with one torpedo each. I used 1m below keel with magnetic impact. Note that pistol impact is ALWAYS active anyway.
With rough seas it gets more troublesome, just last night it took me 3 torpedoes to sink a single C3.

Tell me.
In heavy seas i set my torps to very shallow depth impact, so that the ships dont rise above the torpedo in the storm.
Normally there is that thing where the torp comes out of the water between the waves and is floatin on the top of the sea.
Even though this is kind of an understandable bug, can the enemy see this? In real life it wouldnt actually happen.

Magnetic pistol definitely works. Early war types up to, say June 1940, tend to go off prematurely rather often. Also, heavy storms and high speed settings often makes them go off too early.
So, since we're talking about C2, it's draft is 7.8 meters. If wind is 0-5 m/s, set it to 8.3-8.7 and it's gonna make a mess of the ship, depending where you hit of course. Right below the skippers feet or just under the funnel are the best spots.
C3's are actually easier to kill than C2's- go figure. Sometimes mag set below the keel with locked on scope is good enough, sometimes by aiming the same way as C2 works equally fine. One good spot for both ships, if a bit trickier, is at rear of the ship, between the rear deck's masts. C3's especially don't like this.

I've found that for best results with a single torp,is to get within 800m, preferably,at +/- 5deg off 90,set it at 7m with impact fuse.
Not had many C3's that haven't met Davey with that method.

I just set my torpedoes to have increased explosive power (minimum 400, max 450). I then tackled an OB convoy that included many C-3's. Even with the more powerful torps and hits to vulnerable areas one C-3 that I sank took two torps. The other took one and several deck gun rounds. At least it's better than the default torpedo.zon, which required three or more hits on a ship of that class. Maybe I couldn't sink them with one shot because I used magnetic detonations for all three of the torpedoes I fired at them. I've heard that they actually do LESS damage than impact shots.
