I'm sorry that this issue is no news, but even searching through forums yet I did not find any valuable solution:
the game (european dvd) crashes to the Windows blue screen after a few minutes of training exercises; I have:
- fresh install with 1.4b patch, no tweaks/mods applied (winXPproSP1)
- p4 3GHz
- 1GbRAM
- 1.5Gb swapfile
- Radeon9800pro128Mb & catalyst 5.7 (default settings based on application's choice)
- no antivirus
thanks for the help

What could work is to lower the hardware acceleration of your soundcard (Start, Run, dxdiag, "Sound" Tab). Some people tried that and it worked, no more CTD´s...
What was the error message?
Can you post some output of the bluescreen? Error code or module name?
Do the problems only occour with sh3 or does the pc crash often in general?
Many problems with sh3 are sound releated,
if everything else is fine with your pc you should start looking for the error there.
edit: hehe didn´t noticed Gizzmoes post :P

Another thing to watch out for is overheating. The P4's run hot to start with, but loading SH 3 on my P4 3.6 caused the temperature to soar until I got an extra case fan put in pointing directly at the heatsink.

My SH3 (and BF1942 too) keep crashing when the ZoneAlarm firewall programme is on. Solution: I disable the connection (have wireless) and switch it off. Works like a charm, and woe if I forget.

If MY I internet connection is on sh3 will CTD and my firewall I was recently been attacked so now I diable my Internet connection/restart/and fire of sh3 so far no problems.
Im not certain but I had 9th Flottila update on my pc and allow access on all ports (I know silly) removed it but it still happens.
Uninstalled sh3 and for some silly reason allowed Internet access for the game back tracked what I did removed access and disable IE when playing the game problem solved.

first off, thank you all for the help
Gizzmoe,
I did not have those kind of crashes with the sound sounding like frying :) ... so I didn't suspect about sound issues ... I'll try it
Gammel & Gizzmoe,
-the white on blue screen typical of XP crashes was related to hardware/driver generic troubleshooting (I've see it a million times with graphical issues in other games: as a matter of fact I've downloaded Catalyst 5.8 and increased swapfile to 2Gb... yet I have to test it ... and hope)
-this kind of crash now happens only with SH3 (I have about 15 games installed, it's been months since last appearing of the blue screen)
John Channing,
my case stays always open, there are 3 suppletive fans working, the fan/heating check utility reports low cpu temperatures (around 40)
hakkikt & andy_311,
concerning the firewall ...this looks like a very strange happening .. how did you realize that firewall/internet was accountable?
