Right now I have 1GB of RAM. WHen I run SH3 it uses about 500mb of RAM and I have 30 free, according to the task manager.
Does anyone know if going from 1gb to 2gb will impove how sh3 runs in time compression mod?

My goal is with minimal hassle to be able to run sh3 in TC mode with a higher FPS. I thought since I had such little free memory maybe increasing it could help.

Just wondered if anyone had first hand experience with this situation.

Thanks in advance.

No, that won´t help! What´s your CPU and graphics card?

I have a P4 3.06 and an ATI AIW 9700 pro.

I suppose maybe it's time to look at upgrading :)

If you shut down your virus protection, and all non essential stuff that is running in the back ground may help. Also I have found that if I use system ram instead of video, it helps as well.

It's not possible for you to choose. Main memory is used for programs, video memory is used by your video card, swap space is used by Windows when it decides pages in RAM are best moved to disk.

No.

Once you hit 1GB, having any more won't help SH3 in any significant fashion.

I had the same goal. I ended up upgrading from my Socket A system to a Socket 754 Sempron 64-bit setup. I can now run 4096 TC with the usual jerkiness, but no serious slowdown. (i.e. the clock keeps leaping forward fast enough that it's beneficial and faster to run at 4096, then, say, 2048.)

Someone once suggested this.

4096. I get scared running the game campaign at 512.
At 512, the aircraft are much too close when sighted and
the game drops to 1. At 4096, they are probably into their
dive when you come out of warp....
