I just reformatted my computer and reinstalled SH3. When i try to start the game it says activation failed you have exceeded the nunber of activations allowed for a given serial nunber cotact customer support for a serial number. How the heck do i do that ?
This is the first and last time i buy anything from direct 2 drive. :damn:

Hi,
at least you don't have *force installed ;)
But i have read of an official patch that lets you install the downloaded version as often as you want. Have a look at the Silent Hunter website, it was mentioned somewhere there. This is no crack but fully legal -

You are correct well partly. You can download it as man times as you want but your key only works 5 times i don:t think i used mine that many. You have to reactivate the game and thats what i stopping me.
I need a new key i have contacted ubisoft support about it today but no reply as of yet .

I can't understand why (ubisoft Romania) they went so extreme in there game. I mean its now in the bargain bin , they never reached the 100,000 mark i thnk it was around 30,000 units they sold which if this was a movie it would be a total flop. Alot of gamers wont buy it cos of that SForce, now i just read that theres a limit to installing this game!!! I paid $109 for this game when it came out. Ive reinstalled this game 3x so i only have 2 to go and then my copy becomes usless.

Oh well i put it on two home computers, i suppose that two is illegal.... too bad

If you just backup the folder after it's installed, you can just restore it as many times as you want.

Why did you contact ubi for a key? didnt you buy the game off Direct2drive? Then why are you bothering Ubi about it? Ask Direct2drive.

Hello,
did you really ask someone from Ubi over at the SH3 site ? There is some patch or program which takes away a limited install. I read this some three months ago.

How did you get it working? Did you find that patch or did d2d send you a new key?

I found a way around Starforce activation i can"t post it here i don"t think they would allow that. But it works i never got a reply from anybody. And im playing the 1.4 version patch I tryed for almost 24 hours to get help from ubisoft 'direct 2 drive' and Starforce no reply whatsoever from them .
So i invented a way to fix it. :know:

I've just had the exact same problem, but I've given up on it. Loved SH3 for the week I got to play it (CTD caused by the crew management icon corrupted the installation). Not only can I get no help from D2D or Ubisoft, I have the irritation of only getting a week's gameplay for my $20. D2D won't be seeing ME again - ever.

Mine is a Direct 2 Drive copy and I love it. I downloaded it, activated it, then burned it all (plus all the mods and such I was using) to a DVD. As a test, I installed it on my work computer (no, I didn't play it, I wish I could though). It started up fine with no need to reactivate or put in a serial number anywhere. I love Direct 2 Drive. Not only no StarForce or whatever that thing is that everyone complains about, but also no CD in the drive.

I'm guessing you didn't happen to back the downloaded files up. I would recommend, after you contact whoever ends up helping you, that you think about burning a DVD as soon as you possibly can. The thought of not being able to play software you legitimately paid for is disheartening. I hope you find your solution.

You contact D2D for a new key. I've bought 5 or so games off D2D and they get me a new key within 24hrs of my posting on their Support page.

Give 'em some time.

I used D2D also. When I needed a new key, I contacted their tech support and received a new key in 24 hours.

That number keeps popping up again and again. But former SHIII dev-team members have told several people from this forum face to face that the 30k units is totally poo-poo :arrgh!:

My gripe about D2D was that I can't even ASK them for a new key. Going to the support link asks you for your email addr and password. Ok, I entered them and it said incorrect password. I only use three different passwords so I tried all three before asking them to send me a password reminder. Their email to me simply said "Our records indicate that there is no password associated with that email addr., you may open an account at the following link". SH3 wasn't the first game I've bought through them and I was logged on normally, so how can I suddenly have no records? I'm assuming that if I open a new account, the saved links for re-downloads of past purchases will no longer be available to me as the won't be "mine", so-to-speak. I'd been trying for a straight 18hrs to re-install SH3, so I wasn't at all happy last night! LOL

Thanks for that number, Engel. I couldn't be without SH3, so I went out and bought the DVD that same night. However, I'll call D2D anyway for the new key (hopefully). Just in case!

Just back up your SH3 registry entries on cd after installing and registering the game. Then if you format your computer or whatever, you don't have to worry about limited activations. You only have to install the registries again (2 I think). To save the registries, type regedit in the run slot under the start menu. Look under Hkey_current user, then software, then Ubisoft, then SH3. Right click on the registries, then export to desktop. Burn the registries to cd. Now you have your legal backup registration that never expires.

That's a great idea nvdrifter, don't know why it never ocurred to me. I edited the registry, but only to remove the ubisoft entries in case they had been corrupted or were simply incorrect. I never thought to save export them out. Before switching machines shortly, I'll do just that. Thanks for the suggestion!!

I can't believe that many thought this would ever be a high selling release. It has great appeal to those of us with an interest in submarines and warfare of this era. Otherwise your casual PC gamer ,as I see it, would not bother with it. Too many other "arcady" offerings out there. What we see as a routine patrol, with days between sightings, most would describe as boring as watching grass grow.

The number 30,000 itself is a rather interesting figure and my Tibetian friend would have no difficulty explaning it. He would observe that 30,000 U-Boatmen lost their lives in the service and that number meshes most neatly with all us reincarnated submariners who bought SHIII. :shifty: And like Ripley said...belive it or not. :yep::nope:

When my D2D activations ran out I just went to the D2D support site and e mailed them, explained my problem and they sent me a new key.

The D2D support site uses a unique login for just the support site, so that could be your problem if you can't log in to the support site.

Hope that helps.

Have a look at <Edit>. It solved my problem when I moved to UK and could not use my D2D copy. Unfortunately I had to reformat soon after so bought a DVD, but <Edit> still saves me having to enter a key. Try it, there's nothing illegal about doing it for your own use, aft er all you paid for the thing!:arrgh!:

Gizzmoe: greatly appreciate the softhanded response. Too many mods simply delete post, and ban user and refuse to explain. You fixed the problem, advised the user what they did wrong, and left it at that (presuming first offense).

Props!

You should have just said "Sorry"! First warning for the "Anyone want to contact me privately?" part. You donīt offer that kind of help here.
