It cost me about $300, but I moved from my aging Socket A platform (Athlon XP 1800+, FSB 133, 1GB PC2700) to a Socket 754 platform (Sempron 2800+ 64-bit, HT 800, 1GB PC3200).

That easily cut my load times to 1/4th of what they are. After months of playing it finally became unbearble to wait up to a minute and a half for SH3 to load. Obviously, that make testing stuff for ImprovedConvoys nearly impossible.

Now, I'm finally back in business, I hope.

The loading times are long in this game, but I generally don't mind. It's the in-game performance that bothers me.

I think you'll find that, unfortunately, some of my changes in RND and upcoming changes in SCR for Ops files will slow down the loading times a bit... but I think that's worth it :hmm:

You spent $300 just to shorten your loadtimes! :rotfl: :rotfl: you are uber hardcore. my system is AthlonXP 2600, 786ram, and a old GeforceFX 5700 128ram graphics card, yet my loadtimes aren't long, around 30-40 sec. I also have nothing running in the taskbar when playing SH3. no firewall, antivirus etc., Also take note the more mods you have the longer the long-time, well this is what i found, after i removed the mods my loads were way faster.

My old box was clean. W2K install, no background programs and all tasks stopped, no antivirus software, nothing. Just bare metal W2K only for gaming. I run Linux for real work.

But it was taking, no joke, a minute and a half to load the game, not including loading a mission. It was just unbearable.

The in-game performance was worse. It took 30 minutes of real time to get on station.

I can't waste that kind of time =P

I hope not. ;)

Oh well, I can always run the stock SCR.

Win2k for gaming? whats wrong with xp. Win2k wasn't really made for gaming, unless you have win2k service pk 3 or 4 installed, which you must have. Have you got it on because of it stability? thats the only good reason i could think off.
I too have linux, setup though as a dual boot. Fedora Linux , kde desktop

2K is and has always been solid. I've been running it since '00. I use it because I don't have any copies of XP. XP always boots more bloated, too. My default 2K install uses less than 80MB of RAM. On a box with a 1GB it doesn't really matter, but back when I was running a laptop with 160MB of RAM, it was pretty slick.

I run Debian GNU/Linux myself on a dedicated box. Finally got around to building a dedicated gaming box. It's nice.

Heh I just spent the past three hours downloading all the mods I use. Some of them were on my old W2K install that I had to toast when I moved that drive into the new system. (W2K won't boot if the ATA chipset changes without its permission, so the install goes goodbye.)

Fortunately, I found some sweet new mods.

Wolfies_andRipbuds_Merged_Gauges
WolfiesCleanMapMod
WolfiesStationMod
WolfiesUMarkMod

(Wolfie rocks)

Also added back TranspTorpBackgScreen -- Love that transparent background.

And, the FABC Slideout Mod with a modified Dials1b.tga, Dials1b-Mod für FABC-Slideout_Final.rar.

Go modders!
