The expansion turned out to be just a bunch of mods packaged together that are available for free from here or terrapin's site. There was a bunch of drama about it on these boards a while back.

There won't be any more additions to this sim from the DEVS, only from the modders. The DEVS are building SH4 for a projected April 2006 release.

Actually, unless I have missed something, there has been no official announcement from UbiSoft on either an expansion or SH IV (but i would love to be proven wrong).
I would not put too much faith in the fact that SH IV was on UbiSoft's 2006 release schedule. Lots of things make it onto a release schedule that never actually happen. Think of it along the lines of "This is what we plan to do... but plans can change".

It was part of an announcement made in March. It wasn't discussed specifically, but simply listed as being scheduled for release 4Q '06. We'll just have to wait and see. You can find an article discussing the announcements here:

Speaking of expansions , Does anyone have a rough idea when more will be added to Beerys operations mod .
Silent Hunter 4.
What more can they really do?
Better graphics i guess. But they look pretty awsome already. More rooms to move into like the engine room.

What they need to do is create many more ship classes!! The biggest fault I could give SH3 is that it didn't have a good variety of ship classes. Where are the German Pocket Battleships...Battlecruisers...German light cruisers....Brits could have used a few more classes of warships. Every other nation had basically the same ships with the exception of the Americans having a couple DD classes. No cruisers or battleships of any other nation either.
Other than that (and the Star Force thing) I think SH3 rocks! :rock:

Yeah, I hafta admit I got a bit excited when I first saw an announcement for the Sea Wolves add-on. Then I emailed X1 to ask if this thing would include wolfpack missions (promised but not delivered by the SH3 dev team). The reply I got back was "no", which pretty much confirmed my suspicion that they were actually bundling together mods we can get for FREE and then having the gall to charge money for it.
I know SH3 has its bugs, but the great work of the modders clearly indicates an appreciation for the quality we already have in this game regardless of those bugs. IMHO what X1 is trying to pull off is a shameless ripoff, and I WILL NOT spend one penny on an add-on or expansion pack that doesn't come directly from the SH3 dev team. A cynical attitude about Ubisoft might seem emotionally satisfying (the evils of big business, blah blah blah), but we would be foolish to write off the possibility that the people who created SH3 might actually care to invest more time into making it even better than it is. If I'm right, a "wait and see" approach will be worth it even if we have to pay for an expansion pack. If on the other hand I'm wrong, we still have one helluva great sim, and kudos to the modders who've taken their own time to give us a way of adding to the experience.

What more can they really do?
* Wolfsrudel missions....
* Include other nation's U-boats, why not take italian/american/japanese/british/russian (+ black sea action) submarines to the sea/fight against 'em ? ...
* Functioning torpedobombers/torpedoboats/destroyers using their torps...
* Destroyers using searchnets...
* More authentic bases (no german band + U-boat-bunker in Bergen in 1939 for example)...
* More detailed radiomessages...
* Better harbours (including more ships on the docks/driving around)
* Mine laying missions...
and so on...tons of stuff could be added...
But hey, why not create a World War One U-boat simulation in SH 4 ? :up: :up: :up:

I would like a real commander simulation, where I can program tasks and reactions to events, so in theory the game would play alone, with my stored commands. We have only seen the slightest in SHIII with set default action, but i would like to have auto tripulation rotate, and more specific reactions (if target sighted try to identify heading, set parallel course and awake me) If plane spotted: more than 3000 m away, crash dive. Less than that, attack it. Etc.

Yes I agree with this train of thought - I have been thinking how nice it would be to be able to set up a sequence for night time searches whereby I can auto order a Sonar check for a certain duration every 20-30 minutes or so during the Inky black of night, then get back up top and get under way again - of course this only works in the Happy times with no radar about.
Perhaps a MACRO program will suffice in the meantime for such things.
Hmm what else is there to fix -- JUST ABOUT EVERYTHING.
G7E's that require preheating to get full range.
Realistic deck guns
Battery damage.
Rrealistic engine management.
Realistic Torpedo modeling.
Realistic usage of Torpedo's - IE: you cant use Magnetic Pistols when BDU has standing orders not to.
Realism regarding Neutrals.
Wolfpacks.
Black sea ops.
TYPE XXIII
Realistic WEATHER based on WW2 conditions.
Realistic dynamic campaign based on ww2 numbers of U-Boats, Merchants and Warships that were actually out and about at a given month and year.
Realistic aircraft useage.
Milkcows and surface ship resupply.
Special missions - mineing etc
Real radio messages - IE: Something a little more exciting than "KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK".
Real to life viewable distance.
Better damage modeling.
Real navigation - I dont want to know EXACTLY where I am all the damn time.
Due to the above I want the SUN MOON and STARS to actually be where they should be in real life and have the right phases at the right times.
Realistic Medal system and ranks, like the mods have done.
Realistic depth charge physics.
Realistic crew/shift rotations based on Real Life rosters.
Food management. IE: A mission might end due to lack of food rather than lack of torpedo's.
Fuel Leaks.
Realistic repair times.
Real Kreigsmarine Grid Square's IE: AM 2431 , the sub grids and the Convoy routes should be in the tool set on the Map screen this way you can turn them on and off like selecting any other map tool.
Depth contour maps if your sent on a special mission EG: a mineing mission.
OH well I could go on but you get the picture - yeah theres not much to fix at all come to think of it. :hmm:

while that list would satisfy the hardcore 100%ers i want SH$ to be fun to play and more diverse.

Then turn the settings DOWN to what suits your Gameplay Style - The reverse though is impossible if the settings are unable to be turned up due to their unavailability.
The association of FUN is not precluded by haveing more harcore settings. Infact the more features the more diverse it will become.

I'd like for a smoother way of getting in and out of ports while still preserving coastal traffic. The TC jumping sucks.

Have you any perticulair interest in ww1 subject?

A lot of more they can do.
Sh3 is in my eye just a cool looking arcade game.
I assume you want to play a real submarine simulator, right?
Then there must be more then only dumb cool looking ships and boring patrols.

I've just finished reading "The diary of a Uboat commander" ( ww1 )
and I own a book from 1928, "Unsere Marine im Weltkrieg 1914 - 1918" - just fascinating stuff!
So many possibilities to create a great uboat simulation !
Maybe we should discuss the ww1 theme in another thread (http://www.subsim.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?p=381148#381148), so this thread stays on topic ?

Agreed! But IMHO the MOST importent add-on should be wolfpack operations.... c'mon---- they did it in AOD!
Cheers!
