Here's another poll about SHIII trivia, but I like these polls.

Personally, I like to press Esc when I am in range of the base.

There should be another option: 'I always dock in the quay with the band and nurses'. :P

Since the latest traffic mod we normally start from a pen (with a roof), and not the quay with the band etc.

I figured different people would have different settings, so I would humbly suggest filing your "favorite" docking space under the selection of the most "convenient" docking space.

I don't play full realism, but I do like to take her out and bring her back to the slip. The only thing missing is line handlers. Just my way of adding a little realism to my game. And when its blowing a gail, its not so easy when you can't see 50 mtrs ahead of the boat.

My crew doesn't like it if I don't let them listen to the band
and wave to the nurses.....

Do you get more reknown if you actually dock? I press esc within 30km.

If only the end of a patrol could be like it was in Aces of the Deep...showing you sailing in, everyone cheering, and PENNANTS representing the ships you sunk!

Why, oh why could this not have been added?

Yeah, and to be clear: if the option to quit says "Dock at: xxxx" (where xxxx is the name of a port), then you get the renown reward. If it says "Return to Base", then you aren't close enough to port and you don't get the bonus.

I used to return all the way to the nurses and band in Wilhelmshaven.
Nowadays, I just get close enough to get the "Dock at: xxxx" message.

"Deutschland, Deutschland..."

ah ok, yeah I always "dock at xxxx" never at "return to base", so I havn't been missing out on reknown.....thanks

As mentioned, you do get the 100 extra points for 'docking', but no extra for actually driving the sub into its pen.

I almost always dock where the oom-pah-pah band is playing.

So...................... none of the above. :88)

Sometimes within 30km and sometimes in the dock itself.

I always go back to the same pen and dock (navigate into the pen and come to a complete stop), let the nurses throw a few roses my way, and then end the patrol. I am now being transferred to Brest, so I will want to try a sub pen when I get there.

I used to sometimes hit escape when I was in range of the ports earlier, but with the great harbour traffic mod it's an extra 'carrot' to go all the way in to port to see all the traffic.

I always like to dock. I figure if I am 30km from there anyways, I might as well bring her in the rest of the way. At night, I will launch a couple of star shells to let them know to get the beer ready.

Hi,

I also dock the u-boat, but always in any pen or dock OTHER than the one i started from (stern first of course!). This is to miss the bug - that when returning from a mission in campaign mode, if you get too close to the starting point of a mission (dock)... you will not recieve any credit for anything you accomplished and you will not be awarded any points.

See Community manual for above:

I have personally never encountered this problem, even though I have often docked back where I started from.

bug?

Nopileo

I've never experienced this either, but once recently it said '0 renown' in the patrol summary. However, the renown had correctly been added to my total renown in the 'office', enabling me to use it on crew/equipment etc.

Hi,

I have never encountered before i read the Community manual -

but i'd read in other threads people complaining that they weren't getting recognised for tonnage on certain missions, so i thought "better to be safe than sorry" and it sounded like a find/fix because it had been included in the WIKI.

If they added every thing each of us would like to see, the game still wouldn't be released yet.

Would that make you happier?

Oh, I also always take her all the way to the pier.

Oh, I also always take her all the way to the pier.
I had to stop this since I'm currently stationed at Kiel.
It's one thing to have to sail all the way 'round Denmark, but then I get stuck in a "1x TC only" zone on the way into Keil (due to the proximity of land).
Oddly, it doesn't seem to be a problem on the way out.

There an easy solution. Download this:
http://www.subsim.com/subsim_files/patches/WolfiesTweekPak.rar

Then use tweeksh3.exe to change "Land Proximity" to 64 or higher.

I'll have to look at that, thanks.
But, I should say, the land proximity thing has saved my life. There is a small island to the northwest of Scotland that doesn't show up on the map when zoomed out, and I would've crashed into it if I hadn't investigated whey the TC suddenly dropped.

I agree with Sailor Steve that if all our wishes were fullfilled the game would not have been released yet.
But it sure was a nice welcome home after a long and testing patrol, that Aces of the Deep offered us...

Anyway, the game is released and all our wishes were not fullfilled.

But..but... There are no string instruments in the band, only woodwinds, brass and percussion.Or do you got wind ensemble arrangement?
Serious lack of reality :-j

Takeda Shingen

Händel had written numerous 'wind ensemble' arrangements of some of his older works, especially after his appointment as Kappelmeister for the Elector of Hannover (later to become King George I following the death of Queen Anne in 1714). Such arragements were of need due to the King's desire for outdoor and 'traveling' music (violoncellos and contrabases are hard to lug around, especially with early 18th century transportation.)

In fact, Franz Josef Haydn, the composer of Das Deutchlandlied (Fanfare01 in SH3) wrote various wind ensemble arrangements of the piece, and was inspired so after a visit to London, where such ensembles were more common.

EDIT: Forgot to mention: I am using Händel's arrangement of the English song 'Stand Round My Boys' (1745), which was written for both chamber orchestra and wind ensemble. I use the wind ensemble version.

I recall docking at St Nazaire once. Actualy it was a case of major brain-fade as I was docking in I think June '40, whilst the port was still in French hands. I wasn't attacked at all on the way in and the nurses and the band were there to greet me. I'm not sure what the French thought about the whole thing. We waited until dark and slunk out to sea again. I didn't bother entering it in the log......

Time consuming to dock at a specific pen. So when i am within 30-20 km i press ESC. I am too impatient for the next patrol. O k , I drink a beer at port!;)

It´s great to have a welcoming party with orchestra and everything after a long patrol in the lonely atlantic, so that's why i always dock from the pen where i left, also increases the chance to find more ships if i return manually than teleporting after completing the objectives

I try not to dock at the same pen, because of that bug I've heard a couple of times.
If coming in at night, I might fire some starshells... I figured this might not be really realistic... but it's fun.
I only docked astern once... don't know why I don't do it that way anymore... I'll start doing it from now on.
What's the speed setting you guys use? I switch to the knotmeter and enter the pen at 3 knots, then reduce to 1 when almost half the boat has gone through and then order a "back slow" untill 0 knots (I might even man the CE post so as not to have the normal delay)... ooops... I think that'll have to change if I start doing it backwards!

Within 30km of base ...

I don't trust myself to dock the boat without doing damage to it, therefore increasing my stay in port.
