View Full Version : Bungy jumping external cam?

This was just funky. I was doing the Scapa Flow mission for the 100,000,001st time and was about to finish off the Revenge BB. I pressed the > button to get a view of a DD that I also saw in my periscope, but was just sitting there. When I pressed it, I was getting all sorts of weird angles. When I finished the ship off I headed out the west channel. When I got out, I pressed the button again. The camera was still at weird angles, but was bouncing up and down. It started as smaller "jumps", but as it continued it steadily got faster and higher. Has anyone ever experienced this before? I don't have the camera mod installed at the moment.

This is a screenshot of the highest point the camera got with me watching. I didn't watch much longer, though. I am sure it would have probably went higher. :-?

You are not alone here.

I have several sh3 settings.

- initial non-modded 1.4b game.
- 1.4b + jswe and some mods
- 1.4b + RUb

Every times i start a career and headed for -scapa flow or -loch ewe, those jumping camera are present.

Usually, i loose the external view (ship camera) when i sunk any stationary Major warship ( fiji, revenge ....).

Do you have a nvidia cards ??

I don't have a Nvidia card. I've got a Ati Radeon RX-700 Pro 256MB PCI-Ex card. This is the first time I have ever had this happen. I don't know if it would have had any affect but I just installed kriller's terrain mod. I can't see how. I just played the Scapa Flow again and before I was even inside the east entrance, and when I pressed the > key, I picked up the BB! I think something has just gone wonky. :-?

Yep, just happened the other day to me for the first time. Didn't correct itself until I restarted the game. I had just installed the real damage/hollywood mod, and I though that may have caused it.

Could it be the shallow water? At the time I was approaching Scapa Flow while playing the campaign. Interesting that you had trouble in the same location.

I don't have any of those mods and that happens to me every once and awhile. It's like the camera doesn't reset correctly.

No, I don't think it had anything to do with those mods either. I do think it has something to do with location though (Scapa Flow).

Location doesn't matter/ vid-card doesn't matter /mod doesn't matter. Even the video driver doesn't matter.

It happens periodically. The camera doesn't reset properly. I have noticed it has a tendency to do it more often the farther you send the cam away from the sub.... has something to do with tile/environment mapping. You will also notice your fps gets lower the farther you get from the sub...

Your CPU and RAM may be choking on it.

Either way it seems to be another of those things we are stuck with.

Just don't make a habit of sending the camera wayyy the heck out there and it will happen less.

Unfortunately since I got my IXB I can only press '>' approximately 3 times and the camera starts jumping

Is there no fix for this? :damn:

You guys could try CCIP´s camera mod, maybe it solves the problem. Well, actually it would surprise me if it does, but I think it´s worth a try...

I just experienced this on my last mission, I right clicked my mouse off screen so to speak and the sim minimized, when I went back to the sim again it was cured.

Sorry that I have no answer to the camera problems you are experiencing ... but could you or someone else please post a screenshot of the Scapa Flow map showing the position of the Revenge Battleship in Scapa Flow...?

Have been twice to Scapa in late 1939, both times it took me hours to get in, harbour was always empty, found nothing but damned Sicherungsschiffe like destroyers, armed trawlers and one cruiser so far - where the fokk is this Battleship ? (...or when is it there?)

These are the dates you can find capital ships in Scapa Flow in 1939

sept 15 - oct 10: Auxiliary Cruiser
april 04 - oct 14: BB Revenge

So it is best to be there between sept 15 and oct 10, for then you can catch two capital ships in one trip!

The Bungy Camera Bug !

This is caused whenever ANY ONE of your submarine sensor's DETECTS a land unit of these types :

A) Shore Battery

B) Shore Search Light.

and you have been under TC for an extended time period prior to detecting the above land units.

Bug cycle life:

This bug will stay in affect long AFTER you have moved away from the detected land units and will for the rest of that patrol effect your "Select next Target Camera"

Solution if bug is present.:

A) move away from the land units till its no longer detected, save game and exit - restart game. (works roughly 95% of the time)

B) Minimize the game / maximize the game . (works roughly 70% of the time)

Prevention:

When near land and land units of the above types are detected DO NOT USE your "Select next Target Camera" .

End bug report.

Yep, that's it. I've only had this problem happen once while moving into Scapa Flow. I've also only seen land units like that once as well (in Scapa Flow). That's got to be it.

I never had this bug before I

1. changed to the second fleet in l'orient
2. changed my ATI driver to Catalyst 5.7

Can it be related to any of those events?
:hmm:

Guess I could try to install Catalyst 5.8, but I heard some bad remarks somewhere on this forum.... (on 5.8 that is)

ATI X800 Pro AGP here, and I have the same problem. Only fixed I found was to restart the game.
