I finally decided to transfer to a new flotilla as life in the 7th just wasn't doing it for me. I am now in the 10th and am sporting a new IXC sub. My first mission was to patrol off of NYC, so I was really excited to get started. On my way, I sunk two unescorted merchants off of Spain. That was fun. Unfortunately, the fun stopped there because I used half of my diesel to get HALF way to America! This must be a bug. Worse, because of bad weather, I never actually did make it back to base before running out of fuel. Strange thing---my boat kept running as if it still had fuel. Is this a work around to the "not enough fuel" problem? Next time, should I just ignore my fuel gage?

A second observation: the new T-3 torpedoes are available. Unfortunately, on the load-out screen, they look just like the T-2s! I hope someone makes a mod for this graphic as having two torps with different ranges looking EXACTLY THE SAME will be quite confusing during battle!

TII and TIII were the same, because TIII was just an evolution of TII.

Forgot to tell you, if you plot a course all the way to your patrol area and back, you can tell from the Navigator how far it is to the end and how far you can go at different speeds.

You need to find the "sweet spot" for your boat in terms of her optimal cruising speed=operational range.

For the Type VII, for example, it is 9 kts.

To figure it out, try tinkering with the set speed = x knots, and ask your Nav. Officer to calculate range at present speed until you optimize it.

Make sure you're actually going at the speed you want to calculate first or your readings will be incorrect.

But doesn't the T-2 and T-3 have different ranges? That's why I would like to see a slightly different look.

Ah, I was! I was going at ahead standard because I remember reading in the manual that that speed is the most fuel-efficient setting. I guess for long trips, I need to jettison that idea. :D

Jeez, at standard, it takes forever to cross the atlantic. At 1/3, I am going to need to find something to do while I await my boat's arrival!

BTW: why didn't my boat run out of fuel? Bug? Or is this a workaround to the lack of milchcows?

I am using the latest patch with RUb 1.43.

I get something around 23,000 miles with that... usually have about three-fourths fuel left by time I reach Canadian coast, near Sydney, plenty of time on station. Also remember that in bad weather, your sweet spot drops, as your engines are fighting against the wind and waves.

then u submerge to periscope depth and go from there.
