Battleship Task Forces Available Throughout the Campaign?

It's now August, 1944 and I've yet to run into a task force with BB's. I've encountered three Bogue Escort Carriers and received Task Force radio reports early in my career but those are always 600 km away at least. The Type XXI is really something once you get used to it's abilities. I can attack a convoy on the move using the convoy ships to hinder the escorts trying to depth charge me. It would be great to find a battleship task force and see what would happen.

Also, just before the XXI became available, I was on patrol and received a radio report of a friendly Task Force at sea. The report gave latitude and longitude for its location but I didn't see any icons on the map like you usually do. I wonder if this was the XXI on sea trials.

You could try to zoom in/out. In some cases, icons drawn/put on the map at a certain zoom level don't stay there when you zoom in. (Like, zoom out to the 1000km-range and make a circle, then zoom in to 125 to see it gone.

If you patrol just off Gibraltar on the west side, you'll probably pick up a TF on hydrophones, eventually. It might take a week or two of game time, though. In the meantime a few convoy routes go through there.

I've eventually hit a TF everytime I've been down in CG.

I saw my first task force yesterday, April of 1942. It was off the coast of spain. I picked out 2 revenge class BBs. I got within 4500m when I saw an escort heading towards me so I let 4 eels go towards the rear revenge and dove to 150m. 2 hits and 2 misses, but the ship never slowed down. I evaded two escorts for about an hour, by that time the BBs were safely away. It was exciting, wish I wouldve had all electrics in the fore tubes, the two steams I fired missed, I assume the BB saw them and evaded.

i saw one two days ago with two fijis and like a dozan destroyers (more like 7 or 8). i didn't get any shots in cause they forced me under and depth charged me for about 4 hours.

I saw twice a Task Force in grid AM36 but both times i was out of position and could catch them :damn: .

After reading your thread i went to grid CG95 or CG96 can't remember now, but it's the one just west of Gibraltar Strait, and on two consecutive patrols i have found big Task Forces there :yep: . Usually they bring a King George sometimes two of them, and another Battleship like Revenge :arrgh!: .

On both patrols i just stood within a 15 km radius from the southern cape in the strait, you got plenty of contacts, but with patience and time compression after a couple of days of game time (90 minutes real time) the task force shows going into or out of the strait and you are always in a good attack position :hmm: .
